Health Benefits Administrator located in Central New Jersey is looking for an Underwriter to join its team. Opportunity in commercial underwriting, candidate will involve themselves in all facets of the business; will be responsible for business development, risk selection, analysis, pricing, retention, growth, and book profitability, in conjunction with employer and carrier requirements. The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

• 
  Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, business or underwriting related field and/or equivalent work experience
• Proven self-starter, organized team player, with excellent computer skills with strengths in Excel, data analysis and extraction, analytical modeling with strong decision making capabilities
• Excellent time management skills, must be detail oriented
• Possess excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to explain complex insurance coverages to co-workers outside of the underwriting department
• Able to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
• Underwriting or insurance experience in health benefits, especially pharmacy and/or vision a plus

Description of Duties:

• Evaluate and analyze enrollment materials, medical evidence, and detailed claims information to determine actuarially sound rates for potential new groups and renewal business. Prepare benefit cost projections for alternative benefit designs and various funding mechanisms. Determine the appropriate action for rate relief requests on new business and renewal business.
• Maintain detailed documentation of all actions taken on all groups reviewed
• Manage multiple projects and internal customer expectations to a successful conclusion
• Monitor large claims and claim utilization patterns. Run and analyze reports for monthly and annual tracking of Rx & vision business performance, identify and form plans of action around loss trends. Perform underwriting analysis and arrive consistently at sound, technical conclusions relative to both individual accounts, and in certain situations, books of business;
• Navigating systems and assimilating data from various sources. Stay current with changes that might affect the Pharmacy/Vision market.
• Assist team in building a book of business with a strong profit orientation, while managing a critical balance with other business considerations;
• Assure and be held accountable for compliance with corporate underwriting standards. Participate in underwriting audits to ensure company and/or agreed standards are met. Clearly communicate company-underwriting position for all lines of business. Serve as a technical resource to various operational areas of the company.
