Position Summary

The Facility Projects and Transportation coordinator will oversee all internally executed or managed construction projects to ensure such projects operate per applicable federal, state, and local laws and College Policies. The Coordinator is responsible for assessing transportation requirements for the movement of personnel, equipment, and supplies per applicable federal, state, and local laws and requirements, as well as in compliance with the Department of Corrections, Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees and JF Ingram State Technical College policies. The Coordinator will serve as the Fleet Manager for the College's vehicle fleet. As required across the College, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating with the Department of Corrections and other agencies to execute assigned duties. The Coordinator will assist with facility maintenance activities and support the College Live Work program directed by the Dean of Administration. The Coordinator must be eligible to enter into any/all Department of Corrections (ADOC) facilities to perform the job duties and maintain this status for continued employment. Listed below are the primary responsibilities for this position; however, the Dean of Administration may assign other professional duties to meet the College's needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all phases of College construction of facility projects, wood and steel-framed from inception to completion.
  • Governs blueprint interpretation and design interpretation to ensure quality control for the College.
  • Supervises and coordinates construction trade involvement in projects to provide a connection between projects and Academic program requirements whenever possible.
  • Ensures and certifies adherence to OSHA< DOT and all other related laws, codes, or regulations.
  • Provides daily direction and oversite of the site construction process during the entire construction project, including contract drawing, information requests, project changes, inspections, and test reports.
  • Supervises construction crews and specialty trade workers as well as any subcontractors.
  • Facilitates weekly project progress and safety meetings with all project representatives and coordinates the upcoming work to be accomplished. Attends all progress meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the College's vehicle fleet.
  • Oversee the Annual Vehicle Inspection Reports and current DOT requirements, Develops and maintain the operating costs for areas of assigned responsibility, and submit budget requirements as required.

  • Monitors the use of utilities (gas, electricity, water, sewage, and garbage) and addresses abnormal usages and/or changes.
  • Keeps accurate records and reports on construction projects and vehicle transportation activities.
  • Licensed by Alabama State Home Builders or an equivalent credential from the construction trades industry.
  • Maintains a state vehicle license and CDL with no records on MVR that would result in the inability to drive a state-owned vehicle.
  • Coordinates with faculty to ensure customer construction projects complement teaching schedules and student learning wherever possible to support College Live Work programs.
  • Maintains inventories and works with applicable College agencies to compare inventories to office records.
  • Must be eligible to enter into any/all Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities to perform the job duties and maintain this status for continued employment.
  • Possesses an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a community and technical college.
  • Possesses a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity.
  • Complies with any applicable guidelines and policies set forth by the Alabama Community College System and J. F. Ingram State Technical College.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Considerable knowledge of inventorying building/construction materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the State of Alabama Bid Law.
  • Significant understanding of OSHA and ADA regulations and their application.
  • Working knowledge of building codes and statutes, as required by law.
  • Skill in analyzing facility and transportation problems and finding reasonable and economical solutions.
  • Skill in estimating the cost and materials needed for construction projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others internal and external to the College.
  • Ability to develop a training program for employees within assigned areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

Associate’s Degree with five (5) years of related previous full-time experience in constructing commercial and/or residential projects from inception to completion; supervising construction teams and specialty trade subcontractors; overseeing and maintaining a vehicle fleet is required.
Documented experience successfully leading the construction of projects ranging from single-family homes to commercial buildings of various types; Complete understanding of plans, specifications, shop drawings, and sub-trades scope of work; Proficient in pre-planning subcontractors, material, look-ahead schedules, daily reports to the project manager throughout the project, and cost control; Prior full-time experience as an expediter is preferred.

Salary Range: Salary will be determined by placement on the appropriate Alabama Community College System-approved salary schedule. Local C3 ($63,431 - $94,863)
