Job description
Under close supervision, assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signals systems and street lights in the city. The below list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains traffic signals and street lights;
- Checks power inputs and reports power outages;
- Installs and removes traffic and street light poles;
- Assists in the diagnosis and repair of traffic signal errors and failures;
- Repairs damaged traffic signals, street light conduits, and related wiring;
- Realigns traffic signal heads and replaces traffic signal pull boxes and pushbuttons;
- Operates lift truck and boom truck in the repair of traffic signals, street lights, and removal of poles;
- May respond to traffic signal problems and outages during working hours and on-call.
Qualifications
Formal Training in Electrical Systems AND one year of experience installing, repairing and maintaining electrical systems such as streetlights and traffic signals. Must obtain a Professional Certification in Traffic Systems and Street Lighting within the probationary period. Knowledge of electrical systems maintenance and repair techniques, using equipment and tools used in traffic signal and street light repairs, occupational hazards, and safety guidelines; Skilled in repairing, replacing, and maintaining traffic signals and streetlights, use of power and hand tools used in traffic signal and street light repair, following oral and written instructions, and establishing and maintaining productive working relationships Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, exercise sound judgment in job duties, and work with a team or independently to accomplish tasks.
