Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently recruiting for a Tool Designer/Checker to join our team at the Clearfield, Utah location.
Job Description:
Candidate will be responsible for the examination of engineering drawings and related documentation for soundness, efficiency, and simplicity in design; completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy; correctness of materials and processes; conformity to design/drafting standards, design specifications, and practicability; and economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Interface with review team to assure customer satisfaction with design
Interface with engineers to understand mechanical drawings and make appropriate corrections.
Work with internal Customers to concept needed support equipment for new and existing programs
Understand/monitor cost and schedule
Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability
Support vendors as needed during fabrication
Inspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form and function
Support continuous improvement
Support Operations and Process Engineering in the use of all tooling
Evaluate tool designs for compliance to Northrop Grumman (IPHM, HOPS,), as well as industry dimension and tolerancing standards (ASME Y14.5M-2009).
Evaluate design to determine manufacturability of tool design including proper dimensioning to produce an acceptable, functional tool.
Evaluate design for functionality to ensure tool will perform per user request.
Review design package for completeness.
Communicate the changes needed in a concise but direct manner.
Experience and familiarity with machine shop and weld shop practices.
Requirements:
Associates Degree and 2 years of relevant checking experience
Demonstrated ability to evaluate vendor and equipment capability and ability to perform required tasks to include production of tooling as well as unique aerospace part production.
NX modeling and drafting experience.
Experience checking technical drawings for completeness, form, fit and function
Experience with GD&T standards and meeting ASME Y14.5
Experience with design for manufacturing and value-added engineering

Tool drawing creation and interpretation. (Actual drafting software used is not critical but knowledge of tooling drawing and associated formatting is necessary.)
