Position Summary:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Tool Design Engineer will design and develop tooling for stamping processes for both single station and progressive die layouts, utilize CAD software to develop 2D or 3D prints, and apply knowledge and experience to optimize designs for robust manufacturability.

Responsibilities:

• Act as the subject matter expert on simulation software.
• Apply knowledge of the system to evaluate new and existing tool designs.
• Provide guidance on how to remediate issues that are indicated from the simulation.
• Train existing Design Engineers on the simulation software.
• Design and model parts for customer (either proposal or revision of customer provided models for manufacturability) using Creo.
• Design tooling; strip layout, assembly and detail drawings for tool fabrication, using Creo.
• Design jigs and fixtures for assembly processes, welding processes, and Quality Assurance testing.
• Provide detailed list of tool modification to support quoting process for new jobs.
• Provide detailed list of parts and size to support quoting process for new jobs.
• Generate detailed part drawings for toolmakers and QC reference.
• Design draw, trim/pierce & flange (including CAMs).
• Work with toolmakers on die troubleshooting. Propose possible solutions to die problems.
• Apply solid analytical skills to evaluate tooling, parts, and technical drawings to resolve design issues.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing complex progressive stamping dies.
• Proficient in stamping simulation software.
• Die Construction and tryout.
• Proficient in utilizing 2D & 3D CAD software, Creo experience preferred.
• Proficient in reading stamping die designs, both manual and CAD.
• Knowledge and experience in tool manufacturing technology, equipment and methods.
• Understanding of die sensors, vision inspection and die protection.
• Experience working in an ISO 9001 facility preferred.
• Proven ability to deal with changes while managing multiple projects.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in interpreting GD&T requirements on product drawings.
