Who is Genesee Lake School?

Genesee Lake School is a private, employee owned residential and day school for students, ages 6-21, who are diagnosed with Neurodevelopmental Disorders and/or Complex Developmental Trauma Disorders. Our mission is to dare greatly by transforming the lives of our students, their families, and the employee owners who serve them.

Following the belief that our goal is to reunite children and their families back in the community and reduce use of out-of-home placement, it is necessary to ensure the therapeutic needs of all involved are addressed. Further, it is the growing expectation of funding sources that we offer comprehensive support that includes multiple levels of clinical-based services. As an organization we want to make a commitment to the implementation of best practice and application of the most effective treatment modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides therapy services that are individualized, address assessed needs, and are aligned with GLS foundational therapeutic approaches including trauma informed care and positive behavior supports. Leads staff training and implementation of student-specific therapeutic approaches.
  • Supports the implementation and maintenance of ongoing therapeutic groups that address the social emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs and interests of residential students.
  • Provides family support and/or therapy services that are individualized and aligned with foundational therapeutic approaches, including family sessions, education and skills training, and/or caregiver-child relationship support.
  • Supervises and provides work direction to the assigned Behavior Support Specialist to ensure that appropriate behavioral assessment, planning, and team consultation occurs for students on their current caseload.
  • Creates an individualized therapy plan for each assigned student within 30 days of admission/transfer to caseload. Reviews and updates therapy plan every 90 days, or more frequently if warranted. Develops measurable goals and objectives that have a basis in trauma-informed care and positive behavior supports.
  • Documents student therapy sessions, group work, family support/therapy, behavioral assessment/consultation, and phone contacts within therapy notes. Therapy notes are documented in a timely manner.
  • Reviews physical intervention reports for assigned caseload daily and oversees the therapeutic debriefing processes for both students and staff.
  • Creates and delivers team-based trainings for program and education staff related to student diagnoses, presentation, and therapeutic needs.
  • Completes an initial Mental Health Assessment and Initial Suicide/Risk Assessment for each student. Completes initial and ongoing clinical assessments relevant to individual student needs.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams in the development and implementation of trauma informed practices, positive behavior supports, including functional behavioral assessment, behavior intervention planning, speech/language and communication planning, and sensory regulation planning, for students on their caseload. Collaborates with treatment team to ensure quality of life for each student, using positive behavior supports and reasonable and prudent parenting guidelines.
  • Participates in the GLS suicide precaution on-call rotation and ensures timely completion of related paperwork.
  • Participates in residential team meetings for each assigned program area and supports ongoing staff education focused on trauma-informed care and positive behavior supports. Attends various departmental, interdisciplinary meetings to support collaboration among departments and to foster high-quality care for assigned students.
  • Monitors protection of all rights and reports any violations according to company policies, state and/or federal regulations. Keeps current on ethical and clinical standards outlined by licensing entities, the American Counseling Association, and related professional associations; adheres to practical guidelines established by those entities.
  • Ensures services are provided in accordance with COA standards, funding sources, licensing agency requirements, and company policies/procedures.
  • Supports strategic planning processes and assists in developing initiatives supportive of the mission and vision statements of the company. Identifies gaps in service provisions and/or company procedures and communicates these issues with the appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/delegated by supervisory staff which may not be specifically provided for in this description, but reasonably fall under the auspices of this position.
  • Conducts self in positive, respectful and collaborative manner demonstrating proactive actions and decision making that foster supportive work relationships and a healthy and safe environment. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external customers maintaining professional conduct and confidentiality.
  • Engages in continuous ongoing education to remain current on trends in services and other related areas; attends conferences, workshops and other training as needed and shares this new information with department. Researches and implements therapeutic approaches appropriate for the unique needs of GLS students.
  • Complies with and positively reinforces with others the expectations outlined in: Company Handbook; policies and procedures including emergency/disaster procedures, fire/tornado safety and maintains confidentiality.
  • Requires the ability to accompany, participate with and supervise clients on field trips to zoos, amusement parks, public swimming pools, trampoline parks, etc.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • License preferred. Must be license eligible. Must be working toward obtaining 3000 hours required for license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience supporting children, adolescents and/or young adults diagnosed with emotional, mental health, neurological and/or developmental disabilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $57,000.00 per year
