Temporary / Per Diem Non-Benefited 911 Dispatcher - 911 Center
Job description
POSITION DUTIES:
Serves as a professional dispatcher for Summit County. Works directly with the public, law enforcement, fire departments, and numerous other public safety agencies to provide a communications link for both emergent and non-emergent responses to incidents.
- Answers incoming radio traffic, phone calls and computer-generated calls of an emergent and non-emergent nature; ascertains the nature of each situation and appropriately dispatches all necessary personnel and apparatus according to jurisdiction and specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintains incident and status histories accurately in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Operates a terminal requesting and reacting to interagency data on a crime information center database. Obtains criminal and driver histories. Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Enters and maintains warrants for arrest in the national crime database.
- Maintains a current knowledge and understanding of all departmental policies and procedures, ensuring consistency in responding to situations.
- Completes some care and maintenance of office and radio equipment.
- Performs Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) functions; i.e. relays information to callers to provide immediate medical assistance to a patient or victim.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Participates in ongoing projects within Summit County 911 Center.
Qualifications
• Minimum of two years of 911 dispatching experience required, preferably with Summit County 911 • Must pass a typing test (30 words per minute). • Must pass a multi-tasking and critical skills tests. • Must pass a criminal background investigation. • High school graduate or equivalent, some college preferred. • Able to work varied shifts.
Special Requirements
PER DIEM WORK REQUIREMENTS: • Required to work a minimum of 120 hours per calendar year. • Must work at least 10 hours every month, unless on an approved leave of absence.
