    Job Summary
    The job of the Teacher Support Specialist is to serve as a professional teacher role model, to provide training on ADEPT to teachers and administrators, and to assist with the professional growth and emotional support of Teachers.

    Essential Duties
    • Attends trainings and conferences for the purpose of exploring and implementing current practices in the area of mentoring first-year teachers.
    • Manages a range of processes for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district (NTI), state (ADEPT), and Mentor Program regulations.
    • Facilitates teacher mentor training for the purpose of meeting South Carolina State Mentor guidelines.
    • Trains and certifies mentors for the purpose of mentoring first-year teachers in utilizing all available resources and/or data and providing necessary encouragement, inspiration and advice.
    • Assists teacher mentors in the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment for the purpose of implementation of the district instructional goals and mentor program.
    • Participates in the identification and provision of professional development activities for the purpose of addressing specific classroom needs.
    • Composes a wide variety of materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
    • Observes teachers in the classroom for the purpose of providing feedback regarding effective academic and instructional practices.
    • Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of meeting professional development requirements and/or ensuring that state mandates are achieved.
    • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
    • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    • Conducts presentations for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
    • Informs personnel regarding a variety of procedures and ADEPT program requirements for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with established district and state guidelines.
    • Orients new personnel (e.g. district philosophy, administrative practices, benefits, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring employees are knowledgeable of current practices and administrative processes in the evaluation system.
    • Researches information for the purpose of providing additional information and/or recommendations, to address a variety of administrative requirements in the area of ADEPT.
    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: skill in applying accepted administrative methods/techniques, skill in interpersonal relations with applicants, teachers, administrators and the general public, and skill in observation and analysis of teaching performances measured against best practices and ADEPT standards.

    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

    ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operates equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited.

    Responsibility
    Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational policies to achieve organizational objectives; managing major organizational components; and monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the Organization’s services.

    Other Duties
    Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Human Resources Director or other appropriate administrator.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)
    • Master’s Degree or Higher from an accredited college or university.
    • Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate is required.
    • Continuing Education/Training requires 120 renewal credits every 5 years.
    • Other professional and personal qualifications as deemed necessary for acceptable fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.
    Physical Requirements
    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand and reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, and crouch. Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students’ behavioral needs.
    Additional physical requirements include the following:
    • Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds;
    • Sufficiently mobile to ensure the safety of students;
    • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus;
    • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
    • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
    • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
    • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
    • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
    Work Environment

Duties may be conducted in work-related community settings and/or occasionally performed on study trips away from the school.

    Pay Grade: 28-35 (Teacher Salary Scale)
