SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma/G.E.D.

REPORTS TO

Principal

JOB GOALS

To enable each child to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of their regular teacher.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reports to the building principal or designee upon arrival at the school building.
  • Reviews with the principal or their designee all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned.
  • Teaches the lesson outlined as described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Consults as appropriate, with the building principal or their designee before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher's Guide.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.
  • Report in writing on forms provided, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 40 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds, such as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

  • Ability to carry out assignments.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
