Selected candidate(s) will be invited to begin processing to be placed on a list for the purpose of limited term (substitute) processing.

Placement on the limited term (substitute) list does not qualify candidates for consideration for contracted positions. **

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an Assistant Principal, patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the well-being and safety of students, staff and visitors in school-site activities; assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations.

Examples of Duties

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Patrol and supervise assigned areas of campus, assuring students are safe, orderly, and within supervised areas; assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; monitor campus perimeter, lunch areas, walkways, hallways, classrooms, gates, restrooms, parking lots and adjacent areas. E
Enforce school and District rules, regulations and procedures; investigate and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; detain individuals suspected of illegal or prohibited activity according to established procedures; direct unauthorized visitors off campus. E
Monitor student behavior and activity during passing periods and lunchtime; assure compliance with school rules; prevent or break up student conflicts and fights; investigate and report instances of graffiti and vandalism; prepare student referrals as necessary. E
Escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; provide general information and assistance; direct vehicle traffic as needed; escort delinquent students to and from administration offices; retrieve students as requested by administrators. E
Prevent unauthorized departure of students from school premises; verify off-campus and lunch passes as required; assure students have proper permission slips outside of classrooms during instruction periods. E
Assist with directing and monitoring traffic as needed; assure security of cars on campus; assist in preparing and enforcing parking restrictions and regulations; prepare and process parking citations and warnings. E
Assist in the search of backpacks, cars, clothing and lockers for alcohol, weapons, drugs, drug paraphernalia and other related articles according to established procedures and District policies; confiscate contraband and submit to appropriate personnel. E
Prepare student referrals as appropriate; prepare incident reports; maintain various records related to assigned activities. E
Communicate with District personnel, students and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. E
Operate a two-way radio, golf cart and other equipment as assigned. E
Provide security at athletic events, dances and other special events as assigned. E
Participate in a variety of other assigned activities such as resolving locker problems, maintaining the lost and found, monitoring unsupervised classrooms, in-school suspension and Saturday school, and implementing disciplinary actions. E
Report and respond to safety, sanitary, fire hazards and maintenance and repair needs to appropriate authority. E
Provide assistance to staff during emergency situations as necessary; administer basic first aid to students and staff as necessary. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school and demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students.

  • School Security Guard Training (SB1626) with Poway Unified School District must be completed within the first six months of employment or a certificate of completion can be submitted at the time of application.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or District approved for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment.
