The ideal candidate(s) for this position will have a minimum of 2 years' experience working with consumers in the substance abuse/addiction field. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor provides counseling and case management services to clients with substance use disorders by using interventions, referrals, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Essential Duties

  • Counsel clients, individually or in group sessions, to support them in their journey of overcoming addiction, adjusting to life, and making positive changes.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records about the patients' histories and progress, services provided, and other essential information
  • Collaborate with our other professionals to evaluate client needs and plan treatments.
  • Conduct Intake Assessments.
  • Develop treatment plans for clients
  • Carries a client caseload as assigned. Responsible for determining the client's strengths/weaknesses and needs to assist clients in developing a treatment plan within 7 days of admission.
  • Monitors and documents assigned client's progress toward the treatment plan.
  • Provides alcohol and drug education in counseling sessions.
  • Must keep client records up-to-date.
  • Responsible for assuring that assigned clients are given random urinalysis according to State and Federal guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor.
  • Responsible for client confidentiality as regulated by Federal guidelines.
  • Attend weekly/biweekly supervision meetings and any other supervision that is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical skills.
  • Must have exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers including EHR and SUD billing codes.
  • Knowledge of the established diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of methods of measuring treatment outcomes
  • Skilled in tailoring helping strategies and treatment
  • Skill in accurately documenting client-related information
  • Ability to intervene and manage clients in crises
  • Ability to learn the support systems and community resources
  • Ability to make constructive therapeutic responses when the client’s behavior is inconsistent with stated recovery goals

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or behavior-related degree.
  • Must be an ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, or licensed counselor by the state of Maryland.
  • Must have experience in SUD (preferably 2 years).

License/Certification:

  • ADT, CSC-AD, or CAC-AD certifications (Required)

Pay Frequency:

  • Bi-Weekly
