    The Mid-Hudson Regional Information Center is seeking two (2) individuals with strong organization, verbal, and computer skills to train and support school districts with scheduling, grades, and attendance as a Student Services Specialist. Successful candidates must be computer literate, familiar with database management, and possess strong customer relation skills. A bachelor's degree in education, computer science, or liberal arts preferred. Technical training of large and small groups and project management experience is preferred. Experience with Student Management Systems is a plus. This position provides application training and support for student applications for school districts, consults with school contact persons for system requirements and processes, training, technical support, suggestions and other application requirements, as well as interfaces with Regional Information Center personnel. This position requires a general understanding of applications which may include attendance, test scoring, scheduling, grades, and guidance.

    Civil Service Classification: Competitive. Merit and fitness competitive examination applies.

    Salary commensurate with experience and training. Salary range: $48,000 to $51,000.

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
    This position involves the responsibility of assisting component school district administrators and support personnel with the efficient management of student data services. The work involves the responsibility of providing assistance with the coordination and delivery of the specialized application of student services in the school districts. Incumbents are responsible for assisting in providing support services in the reporting of student registrations, attendance, grade reporting, scheduling, discipline and medical records. This position normally resides within the Student Services Department within the Mid-Hudson Regional Information Center (MHRIC). This position differs from the Student Services Specialist II by virtue of not having the responsibility of project management duties. The work is normally performed under the general supervision of the Student Services Manager with leeway allowed for exercising independent judgement in carrying out details of the work. Supervision is not a function of this class. Does related work as required.

    WORK SCHEDULE :
    This is a full time, 12 month service professional position.
    Monday through Friday

    SPECIFIC DUTIES : The typical work activities listed below, while providing representative examples of the variety of work assignments in the title, do not describe any individual position. Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following, as well as other related activities not described.
    • Trains school district administrators and support personnel, one-on-one or in groups, in the use of computerized student services applications;
    • Serves as liaison to component school districts for student management services by assisting in setting parameters for the set-up, configuration and maintenance of student services software applications;
    • Prepares data for conversion and migration to import files to school district databases;
    • Provides telephone support to school district personnel, including instruction on entering data,
    • generating reports, trouble shooting and diagnosing applications problems;
    • Consults with school district personnel on the on-going development, maintenance and effectiveness of applications;
    • Develops training programs by working with districts in determining their long-term objectives and goals within a regulated environment;
    • Generates periodic NYS Education Department (SED) reports for the client districts;
    • Prepares materials for meetings and training sessions that support application requirements;
    • Works with Regional Information Center staff to improve current services and recommend system modifications or revisions;
    • May make presentations at user meetings to discover and share common problems and solutions;
    • May train Regional Information Center personnel on student services applications.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
    A. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year (full-time paid, or its’ part-time equivalent) experience in applying technology training and support by phone or on-site to users; OR

    B. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree and three (3) years (full-time paid, or its’ part-time equivalent) experience in applying technology training and support by phone or on-site to; OR

    C. Successful completion of fifteen (15) credit hours* in Computer Science, Information Resources Management, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Education or closely related field offered by a technical training institute, college or a corporate training program and four (4) years (full-time paid, or its’ part-time equivalent) experience in applying technology training and support by phone or on-site to users; OR

    D. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years (full-time paid, or its’ part-time equivalent) experience in applying technology training and support by phone or on-site to users; OR

    E. An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above.

    • Coursework in the use of specific programs such as WORD, EXCEL or ACCESS and data entry is not acceptable.
    Special Requirement: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.

    Special Requirement for appointment in school districts including BOCES: In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for employment in school districts must obtain clearance for appointment from the State Education Department based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check.
