Summary of Position: Develops, coordinates, and advises a variety of student activities, programs, and organizations. Designs and implements student leadership programming, opportunities to further student engagement, and serves as the Student Government advisor. Promotes student development and provides assistance in addressing student integrity concerns as well as supporting the Residence Hall Community. Creates and develops co-curricular assessment strategies and completes tracking and reporting for student engagement at Western.

Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department. Perform other duties as assigned.
3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western’s culture, and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
4. Student Leadership and Education - Supporting Action/Task May Include:


  • Develop, coordinate, advise and promote a variety of student activities and programs including any student leadership programs, campus events, and student run clubs and organizations aligning the college’s co-curricular learning outcomes
  • Serve as the advisor to Student Government. Attend all meetings, retreats, and conferences including out of town Wisconsin Student Government meetings, and provide guidance and supervision for all Student Government activities to develop student leadership and ensure opportunities for student input in college affairs
  • Manage program budgets and determine fiscal requirements. Advise student government in the establishment of their budget
  • Serve as supervisor to student club advisors in their roles as advisors including training, advising, supporting, addressing concerns and processing stipend payments. Ensure compliance to college policies
  • Partner and collaborate with others offering student engagement experiences to align and streamline efforts; cultivating opportunities to increase opportunities for students to share their voice and be involved
  • Coordinate the College’s selection of a student ambassador each year and the participation of the college and new student ambassador in the WTCS student ambassador event. Develop opportunities for the student ambassador to be involved at the college and connected to other students
5. Student Development - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Mentor and develop student leaders
  • Support the Title IX Coordinator by providing supportive measures and developing relevant prevention programming for students
  • Support student integrity processes as backup conduct officer for allegations of violations to college standards of conduct
  • Provide emergency response support to the residence life staff and community members, participating in an on-call duty rotation. Communicate and enforce College and Residence Hall policies to Residence Life staff and community members. Write up incident reports.
  • Provide support, mediation, and referral to campus resources to community members experiencing concerns or challenges
  • Provide assistance to the Residence Life Community Director on events like move-in day, move-out day, etc.
6. Assessment & Planning - Supporting Actions May Include:
  • Determine appropriate methods for assessment, data collection, student feedback, and program evaluations connected to the college’s co-curricular learning outcomes and student engagement goals
  • Help to ensure the campus climate and approach in all areas are inclusive, respectful, and inviting to all. Help employees and students to engage in on-going conversations that help break down barriers and foster a spirit of appreciation for both our differences and the areas that unite us
  • Research best practices for engaging students at two-year, commuter-based colleges
  • Using Engage and other communication venues, develop promotion strategies to inform students about their involvement and engagement opportunities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Communications, Sociology, Social Justice, Education, Social Work, or related field with 3 years related occupational experience OR
  • Education in related field combined with related occupational experience totaling 7 years OR
  • Occupational experience in related field totaling 7 yrs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of student development
  • Residence Life experience
  • Ability to successfully build and maintain student relationships

Required Certification/Licenses:

Valid driver’s license
