Position Summary:
The Strong Start Manager is responsible for promoting a positive and successful student learning experience to increase student persistence, success, and completion. The Strong Start Manager will use the Strong Start content to develop and implement training programs for implementation. In addition, the Manager will collaborate with teams to integrate strong start across disciplines. The Strong Start Manager must be deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and achieving equitable outcomes for students across all lines of difference.
Essential Functions:
  • Conduct needs analysis to identify skills, gaps, and needed organizational training to integrate strong start across organizational teams, leading to enhanced student’ success and improved student course completion rates and GPA.
  • Independently develop asynchronous strong start resources for university teams.
  • Support university teams in identifying student obstacles and developing students’ self-efficacy to improve academic and professional development success.
  • Develop organizational teams’ ability to develop students time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic and professional success.
  • Manage organizational teams identification, development, and implementation of student learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials.
  • Monitors student check-ins, scheduled meetings, or proactive outreach and communication, providing guidance in responding to student's questions, concerns, and needs.
  • Identifies strategies to cultivate a trusted environment across teams where students can share their thoughts, aspirations, concerns, and interests.
  • Offer resources to help maximize the success of each student.
  • Use Strong Start content to independently develop and implement student success training throughout the university.
  • Performs administrative tasks associated with department activities, such as maintaining student-facing interactions and outcomes records.
  • Develops proactive identification and outreach processes to target at-risk student populations that identify current barriers to matriculation, technological navigation of National University online tools, and degree completion.
  • Develop training and outreach procedures which may deviate from established protocols.
  • Utilizes case management system to conduct all activities within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Education & Experience:
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution required. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of higher education experience required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of academic advising, counseling, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an online learning environment is required.
  • Experience working with nontraditional students, first-generation students, academically underperforming students, online, military, and graduate-level students preferred.

  • Ability to provide personalized instruction in non-technical language based on students’ unique strengths and growth areas with little to no preparation required.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and promote an inclusive environment.
  • Ability to participate as an active team member of the team and organization and work toward a common goal. Contributes fully to the team effort and plays an integral part in the smooth running of teams without necessarily taking the lead.

  • Working knowledge, principles and practices of office management/systems within a higher education environment, preferred. Demonstrates an understanding of underlying organizational issues.

As a leader, develops goals based on the organization’s vision, mission, strategic goals and objectives.

  • Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
  • Intermediate use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook. Experience using Student Information System (SIS) such as SOAR/Peoplesoft systems.

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency.
