Opportunity

We are growing! Kohler just announced a new 1 million-square-foot manufacturing facility on 200 acres in the industrial corridor of Casa Grande, AZ. We are looking for passionate talent to join our leadership team. This role will be based at our Casa Grande facility once it is open. The role will work hybrid or fully remote leading up to the opening.

This Staff Controls Engineer is tasked to help manage the installation and startup from an electrical/controls perspective of specific Casa Grande plant processes, equipment, systems, and software. Then, this position will help maintain and improve these processes and systems to keep the manufacturing facility as current and efficient as possible regarding electrical and controls systems and software.

  • Consistently develops and applies advanced theories, methods, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems with new technologies.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and plans methods of approach to and organize a means to achieve the solution of complex technical problems.
  • Manage the controls and electrical portion of installation, commissioning, and validation of assigned equipment and processes during the startup of the Casa Grande facility.
  • Provides technical support as required to ensure plant electrical and controls equipment is operating and optimized as well as meets all applicable safety standards.
  • Understanding equipment electrical controls and upgrades as needed and creating and implementing a plan to mitigate.
  • Implement error proofing solutions that are integrated into the production line or manufacturing process control and/ or electrical systems. Examples would be the integration of cameras, laser sensors, in-process/post process gage systems, data collection, etc.
  • Research and evaluate new and existing processes, operations, and support systems for adaptation and/or improvements needed to manufacture Kohler and Sterling products to meet all objectives and improve the overall customer experience.
  • Initiate, develop, and implement continuous improvement projects in areas of responsibility in support of plant initiatives, objectives, and improvements needed.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assure that implementation of recommended improvements would meet objectives with respect to safety, quality, market demands, competitive costs, and general financial criteria.
  • Project management and commissioning of capital equipment projects as assigned. Scope could include complete project management or just the electrical controls or automation part of the project.
  • Works with maintenance team to maintain and update as needed spare parts strategy, recommended PM, and frequency, etc. for controls equipment.
  • Requires significant travel during construction and start-up phases of the facility.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering or engineering technology program. Six or more years of relative work experience.
  • Past results include successful technical leadership on major controls projects.
  • Experience needed with Allen Bradley PLC’s (including SLC 500, Micrologix, Compactlogix, Controllogix, and Guardlogix PLC’s), RSLogix, Auto Cad, higher level programming knowledge (Visual Studio- Visual Basic, C#, etc.), vision systems, programmable HMI, DC tools, machine tool controls, control system interface to networks.
  • Experience creating and reading electrical schematic diagrams for manufacturing equipment
  • Must have a passion for continuous learning and development of new skills and knowledge
