We are currently seeking a Staff Attorney to join our Accident and Health Legal department. A&H Legal is responsible for contract development and negotiation, litigation management and any other miscellaneous legal support to the various disciplines.
Job Description:
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform the following functions:
    • Claim Reviews – claim review requests (e.g. Attorney Demand letters, editing / drafting response, etc.); and
    • Regulatory Reviews – regulatory complaint reviews and/or responses for proper reporting; and
    • Claims Litigation – assist with claim litigation, including case summary, settlement negotiation and release development;
  • Draft Producer Service Agreements, Program Management Service Agreements, and Administrative Service Agreements; Licensing and Vendor Agreements, NDAs, and other various agreements as assigned;
  • Utilize the contract management system to develop various agreements, manage the agreement negotiation process, track agreement status, and provide alerts for upcoming agreement termination / renewal notifications;
  • Independently analyze most agreement drafts from external business partners to ensure agreement meets A&H contract wording; enlist review from senior team members as needed.
  • Assist in the negotiation of contract terms with internal / external business partners regarding business terms and arrangements, and lead discussions amongst all related parties to drive the agreement delivery process; enlist review from senior team members as needed
  • Assist Underwriting with PNOCs, Letters of Intent / Understanding, etc;
  • Develop necessary skill set to independently act as Associate Counsel (with minimal oversight) for at least one Eatontown-based profit center within a specific time period (based on current skills, experience, and product knowledge);
  • Operate as a partner with the business team, not only as a legal advisor, but also by working together to find solutions to successfully achieve the business goals and objectives while maintaining compliance and mitigating exposures; and
  • Other special projects as required.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree, admitted to a State Bar, and eligible for a NJ Limited-License; In-House Counsel.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience with in-house legal department of an insurer or reinsurer with knowledge of Accident & Health products.
  • Experience with Accident and Health, Travel Insurance, Life Insurance products and/or Affinity products a plus.
