Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Assistant for the Department of Neurological Surgery within the New Jersey Medical School. The Staff Assistant will provide administrative assistance to surgeon in accordance with the mission statement of the Department of Neurological Surgery. Duties include coordination of administrative tasks, scheduling and coordination of patient care issues.

- Provide assistance in delivering patient care at the direction of assigned attending.
- Assist maintaining the department’s workload ensuring effective use of manpower and resources to assist in the smooth running of the department.
- Acts as the focal point of communication for the assigned Attending and his/her team, confidentiality being the key issue at all times. In undertaking the role of staff assistant, the post holder will be required to initiate their own tasks and prioritize work.
- Utilizes specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures, and otolaryngology billing for optimal reimbursement and is familiar with insurance rules, billing practices, and hospital or laboratory procedures.
- Duties may include scheduling appointments, assisting the physician in coding for patient billing, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
- Responsible for procedure or medical test procedure authorizations and scheduling including: authorizing services, assisting the patient in scheduling those services, and obtaining reports and medical notes for the attending physicians review.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a related field plus three (3) years of progressively more responsible related professional and /or administrative experience in either the public or private sector.
- Additional related professional experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
