Sr Process Automation Engineer

Location: Lenexa, KS

Job Summary and Purpose:



The Automation Engineer position is responsible for providing guidance and leadership for any automation, controls, and digitalization projects for the Lenexa KS, Verona WI, and Anniston AL campuses. This guidance and leadership will be provided in the form of Project owner/management, and/or Subject Matter Expertise for any automation portions of a given project. This work is completed in close collaboration with the Director of Maintenance and Engineering role, the Chief Operations Officer, the campus leadership team, and corporate functions. This position is accountable for delivery of Capital Projects on time, withing scope, and within budget. Additionally, this position will have close collaboration with HSE, Quality, and Regulatory Affairs to ensure safe and compliant conditions are maintained at all times.


Responsibilities and Key Duties:



  • Prepares and manages the Automation CapEx projects for U.S. campus. Completes financial analysis and builds business case to support investment requests. Develop cost and obtain funding for individual projects; utilize corporate project management and tracking processes to manage core capital and facilities projects within the approved scope, time, and funding.
  • Expand utilization and capabilities of SCADA system to achieve production, quality, and engineering initiates for data capture, storage, and reporting.
  • Builds and maintains strong and diverse relationships across the organization, including key client groups, peers, senior management, corporate, and subordinates while providing the long-range and short-range strategy for the automation and digitalization direction for the U.S. campus.
  • Establish the digital and automation guidelines to be used in the buildings and equipment technical specifications.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of facility engineering technology and automation solutions to increase ecological sustainability and operational efficiency
  • Propose technical solution to reach the “right” level of automation in Capex project in accordance with the business cases and the project charter.
  • Take part in the project phases – engineering (basic and detailed), procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning/start-up.
  • Coordination and checking of engineering deliverables.
  • Regular automation project status reports and change orders.
  • Responsible for the Budget and planning management (Automation projects).
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the technical and management aspects of projects.
  • Accountable for the successful completion of engineering projects.
  • Requires extensive regular contact with assigned project Clients.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals.
  • Budget monitoring and trend tracking.
  • Participating in Client/contractor meetings and resolving Client/engineering and management Project issues.
  • Ensure effective engineering and Client communications.

Technical / Functional Competencies:



  • Possesses a broad understanding of automation and digital engineering disciplines

Qualifications:


Education -

  • Bachelors or Associated degree in engineering or a related field


Work Experience -

  • At least 7 Years work experience and a minimum 5 years as project manager


Other (consider certifications, specialized knowledge and/or training, etc.) –

  • Strong working knowledge of USDA requirements (9 CFR) preferred. Ability to communicate in a proactive, solutions-focused manner, including keeping site leadership apprised of potential issues.
  • Experience in the food industry, pharma or biotech is a plus
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in working with multiple discipline projects.

  • Able to read, write legibly and understand English

The job will require 15% of travels: visit suppliers in the USA or abroad. Participate in seminars and department meetings abroad.
