Job description
Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) provides a consistent, upstream compatible, Kubernetes substrate across SDDC, Public Cloud, and Edge environments that is ready for end-user workloads and ecosystem integrations.
Test Infra team owns the testing framework which strives to solve challenging testing problems and scenarios by focusing on tooling and infrastructure to accelerate our rate of development and release cycles.This team closely works with the release engineering team to enable TKG releases.
This is a great opportunity to work on TKG as a whole while closely working with various component teams to build and contribute towards scalable and robust test infrastructure and contribute towards a more stable and reliable TKG.
What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
We need someone who enjoys developing, helping us build a platform to test our products more reliably and ultimately ship them faster.
You will be writing maintainable, extensible, and correct code to build the TKG test infrastructure.
You will be supporting product release cycles, working closely with QE teams and component
teams.
You will take on operating roles such as helping to triage test pipeline results and maintaining the
test infrastructure.
You have a good understanding of or are willing to learn more about vSphere, networking and other
multi cloud technologies.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Build and enhance the test infra framework for TKG
Develop production level good quality code
Add automated testing (Jenkins) pipelines
Help scale existing automation.
Build dashboards that emit meaningful metrics to help identify problem areas for improvement.
Work with individual engineering teams improve overall developer experience by encouraging and
implementing shift left practices.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
You will be writing high-quality code with excellent code coverage in Go, Python and Groovy .
You can expect to be the owner and take accountability for the quality of your code.
You'll spend most of your time understanding how the various components of our products fit together with particular attention to how they're built, tested, and released.
You'll also engage with the upstream Kubernetes community to figure out how we can integrate our downstream testing and release efforts with those already being done upstream.
Work on reducing the footprint of each product and their infrastructure dependencies. Figure out ways to use our available hardware resources more efficiently.
Collaborate across teams to understand what work is duplicated and centralize that duplicated effort.
Build systems to help us identify what areas of the products are least robust, and work across teams to drive improvements.
What is the structure and culture of the team like?
This role is on the Test Infra engineering team. Currently the team is composed of 3 engineers that work within a very collaborative environment and primarily focus on building test infrastructure to ensure a stable TKG downstream and improve customer experience.
This job may require the candidate to travel and/or work from a facility that requires full vaccination prior to entry.
