The Solar Operations Manager will work closely with the Operations team to safely achieve overall Solar performance goals. This position will be remote and will cover projects from Bakersfield to San Diego

Description

The DG Solar Operations Manager is a seasoned technician/professional with seven or more years of experience with distributed generation scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant operations and maintenance. This person will be responsible for scheduling, planning, and executing corrective maintenance and operation of assigned solar projects to ensure optimal generation performance of the company’s solar photovoltaic (PV) plant portfolio. Overall responsibilities will include management of assigned technicians, creating a schedule of work to minimize lost revenue and production losses, routine maintenance on solar equipment, provide oversight for complex work and maintain records of completed tasks and equipment status. Must be able to troubleshoot solar equipment without help and supervision.

Responsibilities Overview:

· Safety must be the most important job function – required management of HSSE of all sites and team managed

· Development of DJPs or PSEPs as necessary for work being performed onsite

· Able to perform all essential Solar Technician Levels 1-3 job responsibilities

· Perform, direct, and supervise site maintenance, repair, troubleshooting as directed by management, adhering to company and industry safety standards

· Able to perform all essential Field Service Technician Levels 1-4 job responsibilities

· Work safely under all circumstances, seek guidance regarding unfamiliar work to ensure safety and understanding of tasks to be performed

· Manage work order system to ensure assign sites meet or exceed the weather adjusted performance targets, monitor assigned sites.

· Safely, implement repairs to unfamiliar solar equipment, systems, and plants with a minimum amount of training and familiarization

· Keep track of work being performed by technicians under your management

· Review and manage vehicle fleet tracking to ensure that vehicles are properly maintained

· Respond “on-call” as directed by supervisor to assist in emergency equipment repairs

· Performs/assists with technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a solar portfolio.

· Understand, follow, and communicate safety regulations and work procedures

· Supervise and provide ongoing training for Solar Technician Level I, II, and III employees

· Prepare timely and accurate documentation and required reports related to site operation

· Assessing and suggest improved processes, collaborate on new technologies, and coordinate with Operations management regarding the implementation of these improvements

· Perform advanced level troubleshooting for component repair and replacements with proficient use of specialized tools and diagnostic processes

· Perform QA/QC inspections in accordance with applicable SOP

· Ensures work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.

· May perform work independently and/or in work crews, depending upon skills and experience.

· Maintain company tooling, facilities and equipment and a clean safe work environment

· Identify electrical, environmental, and safety hazards associated with photovoltaic (PV) installations.

· Become part of the team and prepared to learn new tasks.

· Perform additional duties as required

· Overnight travel as needed

· Conduct maintenance of equipment (fueling, lubrication, etc.)

· Lift and move equipment as needed (up to 50 pounds)

· Responsible for the operation and maintenance of solar power plants in accordance with established standards and procedures; always maintains safety and professionalism

· Provide a working knowledge of troubleshooting electrical components with help and use of digital multi-meters, meggers, amp clamps, and similar equipment. Tests installed equipment, ensuring proper working order including daily mechanical electrical inspections

Basic Qualifications

· 7+ years of PV Operations experience

· Valid OSHA 30 certification

· Valid NFPA 70e Safety Training certification

· Remain Current in all safety and technical trainings

· Demonstrated ability to be self-sufficient and safe under any conditions

· Effective verbal and written English language communication skills

· Effective organizational skills

· To work well with PM, management, OCC, HV, SCADA, Performance, Networking/IT, Compliance teams

· Ability to work at remote locations in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather)

· Ability to work on an “on call” basis (may include weekends or after-hours situations)

· Ability to work with other techs to be able to complete tasks with these team members

· Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record and ability to operate company vehicle

· Ability to assess safety items and issue Stop Work if concerns are raised

· Demonstrated knowledge of SCADA, DAS and communication networks and protocols.

· Demonstrate commitment and participation in developing an accident-free work environment

· Technical understanding of solar generation and energy storage

· In field / hands on experience in solar construction and operation

· Experience with electrical systems and familiarity of basic safety principles to included LOTO and Electrical Safety.

· Knowledge of electrical systems and tools

· Ability to understand directions, follow procedures, and complete tasks with minimal oversight

· Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations

· AAS degree in electrical technology or equivalent

· Knowledge of electrical testing and equipment used at solar facilities including but not limited to; IR equipment and IV curve tracing.

· NABCEP PV Installer or Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist
