The Software & Systems Engineering Lead is responsible for defining system requirements and developing, integrating, and testing software functions in vehicles. This is a new position in ZF’s Vehicle Motion Control System House that offers tremendous growth opportunities for the right candidate.



Position Responsibilities:
  • Develop and optimize vehicle motion control functions and software for customer and ZF internal projects.
  • Lead and/or support team members in functional development, software development, functional safety, integration, and testing.
  • Collaborate with subsystem and component developers across all relevant vehicle domains (chassis, brakes, steering, powertrain, ADAS / autonomous driving).
  • Review, manage, and negotiate customer requirements and agreements on technical system requirements in DOORS together with the Technical Project Lead.
  • Share innovative ideas for new functions, products, and processes with other team members.
  • Develop and support software and system requirements / architecture and test criteria according to ASPICE V-model development.
  • Ensure that all customer requirements and system requirements are met.
  • Manage system configuration definition and releases to ensure hardware and software levels are compatible and fully tested prior to release to customer.
  • Lead and/or support trouble shooting and analysis tasks in case of problems or failures.
  • Perform feasibility studies in cooperation with other engineers of the project team for new requirements or change requests.
  • Collaborate with the core/platform development team to define a system architecture consistent with the customer’s technical requirements.
  • Lead and/or support the development of the system FMEA and determine significant/critical characteristics.
  • Support the Safety Manager to develop safety concepts to achieve required functional safety goals.
  • Provide progress status updates including escalation topics to the Technical Project Lead and the Head of Vehicle Motion Control.
  • Continuously grow and develop engineering and leadership skills.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 8+ years of experience in developing automotive software, systems, or hardware
  • Strong knowledge of system and software development
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience with CAN, LIN and other automotive communication protocols
  • Strong drive for teamwork with a customer-oriented approach to projects
  • Experience in development processes and standards (ASPICE, ISO 26262, etc.)
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
  • Desire to learn and grow, both technically and professionally
