The Bereavement Coordinator is responsible as a member of the interdisciplinary team for the bereavement program to include the provision of supportive services to help meet patient/family social service and emotional needs in bereavement consistent with Luther Manor’s policies and procedures.


  • Manage the bereavement services program utilizing professional staff and volunteers as appropriate to the service or event.
  • Oversee adequacy and appropriateness of bereavement programs for family members.
  • Develop new bereavement programs and services as needed.
  • Develop educational programs and materials for patients/families, staff and the community on loss, grief, and coping with grief.
  • Assist agency in educational training programs.
  • Design materials for distribution to families eligible for and/or receiving LM hospice services.
  • Plan, implement and supervise bereavement group events.
  • Supervise support staff involved in bereavement services.
  • Oversee bereavement follow-up by patient care staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee the volunteer component of the bereavement services.
  • Conduct the bereavement section of the interdisciplinary team conference.
  • Participate in the maintenance of the bereavement component of the community and staff resource libraries
  • Supervises, supports, gives guidance and direction to volunteers, and ancillary staff according to patient/family needs and State regulations.
  • Presents self in a professional manner at all times (For ex: answers phone with a smile and friendly hello, maintains professional appearance and attire.)
  • Drives to and from patients’ homes and to meetings at other locations as necessary.
  • Required to work reasonable amounts of overtime and flexible hours.
  • Applies best practice as stewards of patient’s financial resources.
  • Will work on-call hours, weekends, holidays and as necessary.

  • Certificate/Degree/License Requirements: Active WI SW license, proof of active car insurance, and valid Wisconsin driver’s license upon hire; re-certification as required.
  • Experience Requirements: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in hospice or significant health care management experience. Demonstrated clinical experience in the areas of life-threatening and chronic illness, grief and loss, individual, family and group therapy. Prefer 3-5 years related clinical experience in varied multi-disciplinary settings.
  • Communicative Skills: Able to communicate directions to; bereavement volunteers; able to offer comfort; able to recognize and respond to non-verbal cues and communication. Demonstrated skill in administrative performance including expertise with both written and oral communication, supervision of staff and services, documentation requirements and program management.
