Our company is all about sharing the cool sh*t in Japan, and we’re looking for someone to drive our social media strategy. You’ll be in the driver's seat of social across our team in Japan and multiple brands/platforms, so previous success in managing a team and social for brands is key. Asian food/culture is blowing up, and you could be on the forefront driving the popularity explosion through your content and fun ideas.

Who are we?

Japan Crate is our subscription box for all things Japan, and Sugoi Mart is our fast-growing e-commerce store with 15,000+ products.

Our social media is well established, and our main account (@sugoimart) has an audience of 2 million on TikTok. Japan's products are fun, unique and many of them are famous on their own so there's endless opportunity for someone who understands social media trends (especially TikTok) and isn't afraid to get weird with their content. Anything and everything in Japan is at your disposal for content creation. Note: Training will be happening for a few weeks in Tokyo immediately after hiring so you must be willing to travel and work weird time zones.

Our teams are based in Tokyo & LA. We all know the world’s changed and spending 40 hours a week in an office isn’t it anymore, but in person brainstorming on new ideas or collaborations is tough to replace. Our LA team works autonomously from home or WeWork, but meets in person periodically so we're looking for someone LA-based to collaborate/brainstorm in person when needed.

What you’ll be doing

  • Making dope content alongside a team of international creatives who also get it
  • Collaborating with our VP of Marketing who knows things don’t always go as planned and that’s okay because there’s no growth without mistakes
  • Testing fresh ideas on our social channels to get people excited about the new drops constantly releasing in Japan
  • Finding fun ways of connecting with our communities and starting new conversations

The Role in Depth

Your main focuses in this role are community growth/engagement and driving interest and users to our sites. There’s a thousand ways to do both, and we encourage you to test your ideas through action. You’ll also be:

  • Leading social strategy by working closely with our social/design teams in Tokyo to execute your vision as well as shooting content of your own
  • Managing the monthly content calendars across our brands/platforms
  • Keeping an eye on engagement so we can do more of what is working, and less of what isn't
  • Partnering with the Marketing team to help build hype for upcoming product drops, promos, collabs etc
  • Creating and executing social-only promotions/giveaways
  • Encouraging customers to share their own content across platforms
  • Ensuring your team quickly replies to comments/mentions in a casual & engaging way
  • Utilizing your team and resources to understand what's new in Japan & our product catalog, and tying those into social media trends/content

What are we looking for?

  • A natural understanding of what works on social media and how to utilize trends in a way that feels natural and organic
  • Proactive work style to own this department rather than only taking direction
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing social media strategy for a brand
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that allows overlap with our Japan team as needed
  • Willingness to tavel to Tokyo throughout the year
  • The ability to manage your time and projects while working remote
  • A natural curiosity to test new ideas and think differently than every other brand

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
