Position Description:

The Social Emotional Learning/Behavior Specialist will coordinate activities within the Social Emotional Curriculum for the general education classroom. The SEL/Behavior Specialist will provide leadership to the school leadership team in planning, implementing, monitoring and documentation of social emotional activities for students. All SEL/Behavior Specialists work collaboratively as a team with the offices of Special Services. They will also consult with regular education staff and support personnel to ensure that appropriate modifications and adaptations are provided for those students participating within regular education settings needing additional social emotional regulation. Communicating with parents to provide information on student progress and provide parent educational opportunities for learning social emotional strategies and intervening and assisting with behavioral and discipline problems within the context of the educational setting will also be expected. The SEL/Behavior specialist will facilitate professional development in Social Emotional Learning for staff, parents and support programs.


Special requirements:

  • Masters degree in education, counseling, social work, and/or behavioral social emotional programs.
  • Valid Oregon teaching license.
  • Experience working with elementary students exhibiting behavioral/social/emotional challenges.
  • Experience developing, implementing and monitoring social emotional learning goals and objectives.
  • Proficient in application of PBIS and MTSS, and fluent with the positive behavioral and intervention system models.
  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.
  • Spanish bilingual preferred, but not required.
