Assistant Division Manager of Landscape and Snow Removal

The Assistant Division Manager of Landscape and Snow Removal is responsible for achieving the operational, strategic, and profitability objectives of the Landscape and Snow Removal Department, as set forth by the company. During the winter months the Director of Operations acts as a Snow divisional Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with owners to set both short & long range strategic plans, which coincide with the company’s overall strategic direction.
  • Oversee the process of finding, contracting, training, managing, and evaluating Service Providers, including creating and maintaining Service Provider contracts, analysis on profit margin, and the Service Provider database.
  • Responsible for achieving the department’s profitability objectives.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the department’s fleet of trucks & equipment.
  • Responsible for enforcement of all company policies & safety standards at the department level.
  • Responsible for the management, oversight, and implementation of training and employee development at the department level.
  • Participates in sharing of best-practices with other department managers and key-personnel throughout the company.
  • Responsible for exploring and pursuing new ideas that could be implemented within the company and the department.
  • Responsible for hiring and on-boarding new employees with assistance from admin staff
  • Responsible for reporting and developing key-metrics by 12:00pm daily, for the previous day.
  • Responsible for reviewing key-metrics and department progress with owners on a regular basis.
  • Manage the Operations budget, monitoring hours and expenses.
  • Responsible for timely cooperative collaboration with other company departments, such as accounting, recruiting, HR, administration, and executive management.
  • Responsible for the accurate submission of all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Operations Manager shall operate in a transparent fashion.
  • Proactively makes vehicle, tool, and equipment purchase & replacement recommendations.
  • Collaborates as necessary with corporate Service Center to make bulk parts and supplies purchases, and to track the maintenance & repairs of vehicles and equipment.
  • Responsible for employee discipline, coaching, and corrective action per company policy, within limits set forth by owners.
  • Assigns vehicle and equipment usage at department level.
  • Reports all incidents, accidents, and injuries immediately.
  • Participates in department, branch, and corporate-level meetings either remotely or in person, as needed.
  • Responsible for efficient scheduling of jobs.
  • Responsible for assuring all crews are out of the shop by designated time each morning.
  • Responsible for conducting and documenting site-checks, per required frequency set forth by the company.
  • Be a subject matter expert regarding the client contracts, scope of work, snow and ice management operations, and leading continuous process improvement.
  • Be actively involved during all snow events, providing oversight of staff and service providers by continually monitoring weather updates and CrewTracker during a storm. This could be 24/7 across multiple days, including week-ends, never a set day or time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent management and field operations experience.
  • 5 years plus of supervisory experience in operations, including managing professional staff and service providers. Snow operations supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong operation planning skills and experience, including pre, post, and in-season planning and execution.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including quick and solid follow through focused on achieving results.
  • Must be readily adaptable to fast-paced, changing/evolving environment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment used for snow removal, including the ability to operate and supervise staff using this equipment.
  • Hold current drivers license, accompanied by a satisfactory driving record.
  • 24x7 availability to be on call during the winter season, usually November-March/April.
  • Proficiency with Excel (specifically working with formulas, data sorting and analysis).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and navigating various software applications.
  • Experience with a CRM system
  • Customer-focused; positive demeanor. The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide audience (internal and external) while providing thoughtful resolutions to customer issues and communicating these issues with management and others appropriately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work independently or in a group setting.
  • Flexibility in schedule vital, particularly during peak times.
  • Maintain a reliable and dependable attendance record.
