Westport Auction was founded in 2007 and has exponentially expanded over the past 15 years, currently conducting 5-6 live auctions monthly encompassing between 2,500-3,500 unique items including fine art, mid-century and antique furniture, jewelry, historical memorabilia, and more.

Location:

Westport Auction has three locations between Norwalk, CT and Bridgeport, CT. This position is primarily anchored at our Bridgeport, CT annex but staff should expect to be flexible and work at our Norwalk, CT location when needed.

Summary:

Responsible for all tasks related to accurately packing and shipping items in a fast-paced, high-volume environment including providing accurate pre- and post-auction shipping quotes in a timely manner; safely and efficiently packing and shipping a wide variety of items; and handling shipping-related insurance claims when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Efficiently calculate and provide accurate UPS and/or USPS Continental US shipping quotes for artwork, smaller decor, and a wide variety of shippable items before each auction to prospective bidders.
• Efficiently calculate and provide accurate UPS and/or USPS Continental US shipping quotes after each auction to winning bidders based on customer location, item size/fragility, hammer price, and insurance cost.
• Communicate approximately 30-40 shipping quotes per day professionally and appropriately through email and occasional phone communication.
• Safely and appropriately pack and create shipping labels for approximately 30+ packages a day for winning bidders via UPS and/or USPS, with a keen eye for item fragility and corresponding necessary packaging methods. Communicate tracking information to clients for each package shipped and record tracking information in company software.
• Communicate with office staff regularly regarding shipping operations.
• Handle any shipping insurance claims via UPS or USPS and communicate professionally with clients in a timely manner if damage occurs, a package is lost, or another shipping-related issue arises.
• Monitor current shipping/packaging materials on-hand to address any shortages.
• Track shipping cost output of packaging materials, label costs, and insurance claims and track shipping department income in client quoted and paid shipping fee cost to calculate any gains or losses in trends over time; regularly communicate findings to appropriate company departments.

Education and Experience:

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have 1-2 years experience with packing and shipping unique items and valuables.
• Prior experience working at a shipping company such as UPS, Fedex, or other is preferred.

Pay is commensurate with experience and skill level.

Skills and Abilities:

• Must be proficient with safely packing and shipping fragile and high-dollar items; have excellent communication skills; ability to effectively multitask and meet deadlines; high willingness to perform repetitive tasks; highly detail-oriented.
• Must be willing to learn and quickly become proficient with our software programs in depth.
• Must be able to work as a team in a creative group environment, work independently and be self-motivated as needed.
• Willingness to cross-train throughout all roles if applicable.
• Ability to gauge workload and report on production abilities.
• To perform this job successfully, the individual must withstand long periods of repeating tasks, standing, sitting, walking, and looking at a computer monitor for approximately 8 hours daily. Individuals may repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
