Systems Engineer II (Hybrid)

Collins Aerospace Systems is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. Collins Aerospace is a business unit within Raytheon Technologies and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The Collins Aerospace business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within Collins Aerospace we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.

Systems Engineer to lead verification efforts on the Orion Design, Development, Test, and Evaluation (DDT&E) phase of the program. This position will take direction from the program Engineering Lead and Program Chief Engineer. Hardware is comprised of active thermal control systems (ATCS) and environmental control and life support systems (ECLSS) including but not limited to controllers, pumps, accumulators, valves, heat exchangers, and sensors.

As a Systems Engineer working Orion/DDT&E you will be immersed in the following activities:

  • Drive verification of customer requirements to closure.
  • Work collaboratively with other Engineering disciplines (Project, Software, Mechanical, and Electrical), Programs, Production, Quality.
  • Facilitate project tasks with the various functional organizations to ensure alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Work autonomously with limited oversight from manager

The candidate will drive the closure of requirement verifications while meeting both internal and external customer expectations. Direct communication with customers will be required. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), technical experience, and the ability to work as cross-functional team member.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering degree w/ 4 + years of experience
  • MA/MS in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineer or MBA degree w/ 3 + years of experience
  • Prior experience in related Engineering discipline(s)
  • Experience with environmental control and life support hardware
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize both daily issues and strategize longer term projects
  • Superior interpersonal and influencing skills, including coaching and mentoring of other engineering staff
  • Strong computer skills, MS Office, DOORS
  • Natural presence/comfortable presenting to internal and external customers
  • Ability to bring team members together and work problems to resolution
  • A desire to improve IPT performance
