Sierra Space is looking for a Quality Inspector capable of dimensionally inspecting high-tolerance spacecraft components using visual aids and/or dimensional inspection equipment. Experience and understanding of drawings, specifications, and GD&T, as well as verification of traceability and product verification is essential to be successful in this position. These individuals will need to be highly adaptive and able to respond to ever-changing priorities amongst multiple spacecraft and component programs.

As a Quality Inspector III, you'll be using your skills and expertise to ensure that our incoming parts, in-process production, and shipped product fulfill all quality requirements. You'll be responsible for visually inspecting our materials, parts, and products at different stages of production, as well as recording observations and making recommendations for improving processes. You'll inspect for structural flaws, internal defects, or missing welds, and accept, reject, or request rework of defective or malfunctioning units or systems. You'll apply, revise, and maintain our quality standards for receiving, in-process and final inspection.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Receiving and Production Inspection
  • Inspect and file/record incoming part history records
  • Perform accurate mechanical, physical and visual inspection of raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies per Inspection Plans, drawings and other specification requirements
  • Read and interpret specifications and part prints
  • Initiate nonconformance reports (NCs) as required
  • Ensure calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment is up to date prior to conducting inspection operations
  • Perform product identification and traceability activities, as required
  • Work with other company personnel to resolve inspection questions
  • Communicate with project engineers to ensure compliance with the final product requirements
  • Document information on the computer in various databases and other internal programs
  • Participates in in-process and final inspection as needed
  • Trains collateral duty Inspectors
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations
  • As needed, assist Quality Engineers with conduct of First Article, in-process, and final inspections
  • Train contract / temporary employees in the inspection procedures
Must-haves:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent and typically 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Knowledge and ability to understand and interpret technical schematics and drawings
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerance
  • Extensive experience with finished goods inspection
  • Experience with Costpoint and/or AEGIS-MES
  • Understanding of material flow in operations
  • Ability to draft work instructions and SOP's
  • Proficient with Network+, Security+, CCNA and/or A+
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000 and AS 9100 standards
Preferred:
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Quality Control environment
  • Experience in aviation or spacecraft preferred
  • Previous mechanical inspection background including basic hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges etc.)
  • As required by site, knowledge of and ability to use a wide range of higher precision measuring or Non-Destructive Evaluation equipment
  • Experience in mechanical inspection and inspection techniques
  • Self-starter requiring minimal supervision
  • Effective teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with MS Excel and Word
  • Proficient with geometry and trigonometry (machine shop math)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Frequently requires vision abilities to include close, distance, depth perception, and telling the difference between colors
  • Frequently requires hearing abilities to include discerning different tones and volumes
  • Frequently lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
  • Frequently exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises

  • Monday 6:00am-4:30pm MT
  • Friday 6:00am-4:30pm MT
  • Saturday 6:00am-6:30pm MT
  • Sunday 6:00am-6:30pm MT
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $24.39 - $33.54. SNC considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.
