Description:
Reporting to the Library Coordinator (Bibliographic Management), the position is responsible for copy cataloging library materials, performing bibliographic database maintenance, receiving government documents, and performing general library acquisitions duties including ordering and receiving of library materials. This position may supervise student employees when needed for projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Performs complex bibliographic management operations (e.g. searching; checking the series and name authority files; and creating, reviewing or updating the cataloging record) using a specialized knowledge of online databases, microcomputer applications, complex reference tools, and/or foreign language skills.
  • Creates permanent machine-readable bibliographic and authority records; may perform online bibliographic updates.
  • May establish headings to contribute to the Library of Congress Name Authority database.
  • Verifies or assigns subject headings and classifications (e.g. Library of Congress, National Library, or Dewey Decimal.) May supervise or direct the work of staff/students.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
30% - Cataloging & Bibliographic Maintenance Duties
  • Performs copy cataloging of materials in OCLC Worldcat and the library’s bibliographic management system (Alma).
  • Maintains library holdings in OCLC Worldcat.
  • Adds, edits, or deletes bibliographic and related records in Alma as needed.
  • Verifies or assigns LC subject headings and LC classification numbers as needed.
  • Checks all serial issues for title or publisher changes that require new or updated records.
  • Updates AACR2 or older records to RDA standards.
  • Logs and submits monthly cataloging statistics.
  • Maintains cataloging skills and keeps informed of changes to cataloging/metadata standards.
30% - Government Documents
  • Unpacks new government document shipments and verify shipping lists/receipts against Law Library’s FDLP selections.
  • Copy catalog new government document issues.
  • Add item level information for documents as appropriate.
  • Report missing or damaged issues to GPO.
  • Report discrepancies in SuDoc classification numbers between labels and GPO records.
30% - Library Acquisitions
  • Orders selected materials from library vendors.
  • Creates and updates orders in library’s management system (Alma).
  • Creates short bibliographic records for ordered materials when needed.
  • Searches the library’s bibliographic database to avoid duplication of materials between Emory Libraries.
  • Contacts vendors to update library records and to resolve problems with orders.
10% - Other Duties
  • Processing of materials and routing items as needed.
  • Receives items and helps shelve pocket parts as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of processing supplies and places orders to replenish stock.
  • Service on law library, law school, and university-wide committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in cataloging standards and software, including OCLC Connexion, MARC21, AACR2, and RDA.
  • Knowledge of government documents and SuDoc classification.
  • Experience using Ex Libris Alma.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in work history.
  • Ability to recognize and set priorities.
  • Ability to master new skills quickly.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technology skills and proficiency with computers and standard office software (MS Office Suite).
  • Strong communication skills.
