As a Senior Frontend Engineer at OpenGov, you'll build best-in-class SaaS solutions that enable efficiency, transparency, and accountability within government agencies. You'll be a key member of our engineering team, delivering new features and improvements in a fast-paced, agile environment using modern technologies, including React, TypeScript, and GraphQL.

What You’ll Do

You will be working as a Frontend engineer in the Platform Shared Services team. The Platform Shared Services engineering at OpenGov is part of the Platform Engineering that develops general components to be shared by applications within the OpenGov products. Component Library is one such artifact that is leveraged to build application Frontends of OpenGov products.You will work on writing new or improving existing components, supporting the needs of all Application Suites, guiding our component standards, and coordinating the efforts of contributors across all Suites. This role would provide opportunities to optimize applications for speed and scalability and resolve various unique technical challenges.
Your mission will be to:

  • Work with Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, QA, Accessibility, Internationalization, Performance, and stress testing to ensure the library’s components are up to OpenGov quality standards to delight our customers.
  • You will be highly involved across suites. Plan what improvements or new components are needed to support suites and align delivery (via product and design).
  • Shape and evolve standards and patterns of use, and guide the suites teams in their adoption,
  • Build, release, curate, evolve, and maintain the library and its existing reusable components to a high standard
a. Write unit and integration tests to improve and maintain high code coverage
b. Ensure the library meets OpenGov’s accessibility guidelines
c. Ensure the library meets OpenGov’s design guidelines
d. Ensure the library meets OpenGov’s engineering standards
  • Support and advocate for the adoption of the Library in Applications
a. Design great APIs
b. Write documentation
c. Gather and apply feedback
  • You will work with a distributed team.

Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in front-end engineering roles
  • 5+ years of professional experience with Javascript / ECMAScript
  • 4+ years of professional experience with React
  • 3+ years of professional experience with TypeScript
  • 3+ years of professional experience using Git or similar version control systems
  • Experience using and writing React Hooks
  • Experience integrating UIs with data from service endpoints
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Understanding of functional programming fundamentals
  • Experience doing and submitting to code reviews
  • Experience working cross-functionally, collaborating with designers, and coordinating product/program managers

Nice-to-have:

  • High Performance React Grid experience like AG-Grid
  • Typed Functional Programming experience
  • Webpack, SWC, or similar tooling experience
  • Node.js experience
  • Understanding of AWS fundamentals.
  • Real-world experience building scalable SaaS products
  • You’re extremely interested in learning new languages, platforms, and ideas.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment focused on delivering production code regularly using Agile techniques, tools, and methodologies.
