JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Engineering Manager plans, directs, and coordinates activities from corporate portfolio development into engineering project execution. Ensures marketing deliverables are fit for entry into use by the Product Engineering team. The Senior Engineering Manager leads projects teams through the PRP. This role will ensure the project teams are staffed appropriately and are funded as necessary to partner other Midmark locations, industrial design firms, vendors, and 3 rd party engineering firms in order to successfully deliver customer value. The Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for weighing tradeoffs throughout the development process in terms of cost, quality, and lead time implications.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Acts as Voice of the Customer in Product Engineering and bridges Marketing and Engineering.
  • Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts that may apply across product categories and Midmark locations.
  • Provides vision of the marketplace to deliver best in class solutions to our customers.
  • Leads projects through the PRP, reconciling customer needs into engineering requirements and then overseeing the development through to production.
  • Identifies risk early in projects to ensure Technical Research is properly performed to help transition projects seamlessly into execution.
  • Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan and execute projects.
  • Identify technology gaps and make proposals for advanced research through ART, Engineering, or 3 rd party engineering firms.
  • Makes recommendations for platform synergies to enhance organizational leverage on cost, quality, and lead time.
  • Collaborates with engineering managers, product management, and all other stakeholders to identify and prioritize critical project milestones and deliverables.
  • Forecast department costs and directs preparation of budget requests
  • Continuously gather feedback from all team members to track progress, mitigate risk and identify areas of continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates allocation of resources, considering functional disciplines, including tools, and capital necessary for project and product success.
  • Coordinates and responds to requests for changes from original specifications and timelines.
  • Coordinates project activities with marketing, operations, customer experience, quality, and regulatory to ensure goals and requirements are met throughout the PRP.
  • Ensure proper customer knowledge exists on the team to satisfy customer needs. Work with product management on immersion and customer data input to team.
  • Collaborates with the Quality department on the field performance of our products. Assist in resolving customer facing issues when necessary.
  • Ensure the proper scoping of development projects in order to hit financial expectations and business unit strategies.
  • Ultimately responsible for transferring customer needs into products or services that improve the quality or effiency of care.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Provide functional managers with feedback and development opportunities for those participating on Product Engineering design teams.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Quality, Project Management or similar
  • Minimum 5 years management/supervision/mentorship experience
  • Engineering or Operations background and process development.
  • Applicable certification preferred (PMI) but not required.
  • Three years of experience developing products and/or managing engineering projects in a highly regulated environment (medical devices, FDA regulated industry) preferred.
  • Program leadership roles either as a technical lead or project manager preferred.
  • Experience in all phases of product development from concept to launch preferred.
  • Experience in developing products designed for manufacturability – background and/or functional knowledge in manufacturing operations preferred.
