Job Summary:
Day to day management of the Artist Relations Department.
Oversee the planning, budgeting and travel for tours and promotional events for artists of the CMG Labels.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manage, mentor, train and support the Artist Relations staff as needed.
  • Work with Managers, Tour Managers, and various CMG departments (Marketing, Digital Media, Publicity, Video and Radio Promotion, Sales, and International Marketing) to create, approve, and execute promotional opportunities for assigned artists.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive daily itineraries for assigned artists that include all elements of daily promotional and tour activities.
  • Evaluate potential scheduling conflicts and issues between label and artist calendar and resolve those issues in a timely, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Work closely with Finance and Marketing to create or obtain budgets for all tours and promotional events for assigned artists.
  • Review tour support and promotional event budgets – this includes reviewing tour revenue and costs in detail with Managers and/or Tour Managers, cutting out unnecessary costs, and providing recommendations/solutions that lower costs and/or increase revenue.
  • Approve promotional event budgets under a specific dollar threshold – this includes negotiating fair budgets with Management.
  • Manage, and when necessary, book artist travel for promotional events, including flights, trains, cars, and hotels.
  • Review ticket buys for assigned artists and manage how tickets are distributed internally.
  • Advance and attend concerts/shows to ensure label and marketing partner needs are satisfied in a professional manner including venue/artist credentials, VIP tables, tickets/guest list/admittance and parking.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of artist showcases
  • Review artist promotional and tour accountings, calculate backend payments, and negotiate settlements with managers when necessary.
  • Ensure that invoices for promotional and touring activities (tickets, transportation, backline/PA rental, security, staging, etc.) are processed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Plan and execute company meetings and events – this includes, building budgets, researching and booking venues, and engaging third party vendors.
Education and/or Experience:
10-15+ years of music industry experience, with prior budget responsibility, and minimum of 7+ years of touring and event experience. An intimate knowledge of all label departments is also required.
Other:
Computer skills: Strong computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook) and an intimate knowledge of the internet. Experience with VME or PRS strongly preferred.
Additional skills: A proactive, organized, self-starter who has strong problem solving, social, and interpersonal skills. Exceptional communication and time management skills. The ability to prioritize and multi-task. Must be able to work independently but be a team player and flexible. Must be able to adapt to all situations and handle stress. Must be able to create and maintain good relationships with artists, managers, attorneys, etc. Multitasking and organizational skills a must.
  • Some travel required (including late night local travel). Must be available to attend local shows, events and concerts.
Fiscal Accountability:
  • Work with Artist Relations, Finance and Marketing departments to set ticket, touring and promo budgets and control spending related to those budgets.
Supervises: Artist Relations Department
Internal Contacts: Marketing, Publicity, Video and Radio Promotion, Digital Media, Sales, A&R, International Marketing, Finance and all other departments within CMG.
External Contacts: Managers, tour managers, ticket companies/agencies, booking agents, concert promoters, venues, independent publicists, equipment rental companies, tour credential companies, transportation companies, other label counterparts.
