The Senior Counsel, Evernorth Accountable Care (Senior Counsel) position will provide strategic legal advice and counsel on a variety of legal matters, including development and go-to-market strategy for new value-based solutions and modifications or enhancements to existing solutions, legal and business strategy, and corporate and regulatory matters, while working alongside senior Evernorth Accountable Care (ENAC) leadership.

The Senior Counsel will take ownership of issues and coordinate with other parts of the business across Evernorth and the Cigna Group to reach successful solutions. As a senior legal advisor to ENAC, the Senior Counsel will provide legal advice and counsel on issues related to development and operation and medical networks, utilization management solutions, payor client contracting, and other related solutions designed to promote delivery of simple, predictable, and affordable medical care to our clients, customers, and members. To be successful, this individual must address the business needs of the organization while protecting the organization from risk.

The Senior Counsel will also work closely with the compliance leadership in the benefits management area to address known and potential regulatory, legal, and business risks, and will work with the business to find business-focused methods to mitigate or eliminate those risks. The Senior Counsel will also work with corporate compliance and other legal partners to design and implement measures to avoid, mitigate and/or remediate such risks.

Strong analytical skills are required and successful candidates must work effectively on a cross-functional team, but also develop and manage relationships with business clients at all levels of the organization.

The Senior Counsel will be accountable for knowledge and expertise on applicable state and federal laws and regulations, to include, by way of example: laws pertaining to utilization management and third party administrators; laws and regulations pertaining to the development and operation of medical networks; federal law under ERISA (as applicable to solution offerings), and federal and state privacy laws and regulations (including the HIPAA Privacy Rule).

On privacy matters, the Senior Counsel will be assisted by Cigna's Privacy Office.

Qualifications:
Law degree; at least 8 years corporate legal department or law firm experience with a sophisticated healthcare practice.
Proven legal experience in value-based care and/or accountable care organization (ACO) matters.
JD and Bar membership.
Ability to think strategically and assist a business team by predicting, mitigating and avoiding legal risk. The individual should be able to work independently as a lawyer, but successfully contribute as a member of the medical benefits management leadership team.
Requires a customer-focused and creative approach to problem solving and the ability to efficiently manage a substantial number of issues and competing priorities effectively.
Strong analytical and contract writing skills, strong negotiating skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Exceptional track record of project and process management.
Strong time-management skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong people skills.
Demonstrated good judgment and willingness to take on difficult projects.
Strong experience in measuring and analyzing process as well as results, to identify opportunities for improvement.
Strong ability to maneuver through business barriers to facilitate solutions.
Knowledge of Evernorth and Cigna products and solutions a plus.
Knowledge of healthcare industry a plus.
This role is located in an office and will be a Flex- in office a few days a week and some WAH.
Ability to work more than 40 hours per week.
