At Spotify Advertising, our part of that mission is to build the next generation advertising platform for audio which can scale the freemium experience for hundreds of millions of fans and tens of thousands of advertisers. This scale brings unique challenges as well as tremendous opportunities to define the ads systems products for our business.
We are looking for a Backend leaning Full Stack Engineer to facilitate learning, excellence and delivery within Spotify’s Ads Business Unit. In this role, you will be instrumental in guiding software development to successfully scale and build ad delivery infrastructure tools. You will help us define and materialize our monetization vision to improve the ad experience for our listeners and advertisers alike, and grow our advertising business to be market leader. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music.
What You'll Do
- Lead designs of major software components, systems and features
- Assume technical ownership of entire projects, systems, applications and Java services
- Collaborate with key internal partners to determine how to scalably design backend systems and APIs
- Partner with team members and product managers to develop a deep understanding of business problems, and translate to architectural and technical decisions
- Coach and mentor engineers via working sessions, and perform code reviews and architectural reviews
- Work with technologies such as Java, JavaScript (TypeScript, React, Redux and Cycle.js), and BigQuery
- Help shape and promote sound engineering practices and software development processes in an agile, iterative environment
- Keep abreast of innovative technology, SaaS and engineering developments. Steer towards good tool and technology choices that both fit the problem at hand and align with long term visions and roadmaps.
- Work on what you want during regular hack days and annual hack weeks
Who You Are
- You have 5+ years of working experience as a Backend Engineer working with Java. Additional technologies such as JavaScript (TypeScript, React, Redux and Cycle.js), BigQuery, and Bigtable are a plus
- You have experience working directly with stakeholders to understand, document and develop APIs and systems to meet their requirements, driving increased adoption and reducing reliance on custom one-off implementations
- You can navigate through ambiguity and technical complexity, taking a pragmatic approach to problem solving on a comprehensive level
- You are passionate about delivering end-to-end experiences across the stack and diving into new technologies
- You have some experience in front end/ web development
- You believe data is the most powerful tool for informed decision-making
- Experience in digital media advertising is a plus

The United States base range for this position is $178,600 -$223,250 plus equity, plus bonus or commission. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. These ranges may be modified in the future.
