REPORTS TO Director of Marketing Communications

SUPERVISES None

WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday – Friday

WORK HOURS 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; occasional evenings and weekends

NUMBER OF MONTHS PER YEAR 12

POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for supporting the district with public and internal communication needs, ensuring that all communications are clear, accurate, compelling, and adhere to brand standards. Develops integrated (print, web, video) communications plans for district initiatives, programs, and services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of professional communication tools: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop;
  • Strong working understanding of educational issues;
  • Strong, demonstrable skills in browser coding: HTML, CSS;
  • Demonstrated computer skills using Microsoft Office software programs;
  • Organized and engaged meeting management skills;
  • Demonstrated and effective oral and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently;
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline driven, rapidly changing team environment;
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with school system staff, students, external agencies, and the community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related discipline;
  • Three years of experience in communications or marketing environment;
  • Experience overseeing multiple plans, projects, and schedules while moving all key components forward on simultaneous paths;
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Produces written communications via newsletters, brochures, internal documents, presentations, articles, and other communication vehicles.

2. Produces/codes web pages and online content that support an integrated communications campaign.

3. Works with department stakeholders to develop communication plans to support district initiatives

4. Coordinates with department stakeholders to ensure that communications are consistent with the district’s strategy, messages and organizational needs.

5. Supports internal communication needs by developing and executing a strategy to effectively communicate district initiatives to staff.

6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers and copiers. Be able to frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to ten pounds. The work requires driving automotive equipment. Due to the amount of time spent working on the computer, standing and walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for light work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in office and public school environments, and come into direct contact school system staff, students, external agencies, and the community. Travel is required to schools and Central Services offices.
