Job Summary:

The Security Specialist personnel are stationed at The Johns Hopkins Hospital entrances with the visitor welcoming system. This role is responsible for partnering with the Guest Services team to enhance security and to create a patient and family-centered culture. The Security Specialist is responsible for day-to-day operations at our entrances by maintaining a safe environment. This role provides superior customer service and is trained in de-escalation techniques and conflict management. They also work closely with internal patrols of JHMI buildings to protect against illegal activities, theft, fire, hazardous conditions, infringements, etc. when/where necessary.

Education:

High school diploma or GED required. Associates Degree or equivalent, 2 years of college or security/law enforcement work experience preferred. Requires successful completion of basic security officer training and customer service training within the first 90 days of hire.

Licensure/Certifications:

CPR

Experience:

2 years of college or security/law enforcement work experience preferred

Knowledge/Skills:

Requires comprehensive knowledge of security functions. Requires interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, visitors, and staff. Requires knowledge of hospital policies and procedures with the ability to read, write and give accurate information. Demonstrated ability to learn floor plan of Institution. Experience working with visitor welcoming system, and EPIC electronic medical records system preferred

Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact diplomatically with diverse groups of people, exchange information and produce written correspondence.
Requires the ability to comprehend verbal and written direction.
Work requires familiarity with handling emergency situations, writing routine security reports and using safety equipment.
