  • $20.50/hr
  • $1.25 3rd shift differential 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM with unpaid 30 minute lunch

The Safety Trainer will be an active part of plant safety programs including: completing safety audits, conducting safety trainings, developing training materials, and supporting shift employees and supervisors with safety concerns.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Develop training materials and train/educate all plant employees within all aspects of safety in the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Train employees on the proper use of all cutting machines and hand tools.
  • Train and certify employees on the proper use of powered industrial truck operation.
  • Research and gather materials for training purposes.
  • Develop necessary training documents and materials.
  • Conduct audits to ensure that all operators are following the saw operating policies and procedures.
  • Conduct on-site and off-site training duties.
  • Prepare and conduct weekly plant wide safety presentations. (Public Speaking and Presentation)
  • Ensure that all training documents are properly maintained and submitted to the necessary personnel.
  • Conduct re-training sessions as needed in the case of a saw/hand tool related accident or unsafe act.
  • Involved in investigation and correction of all safety related near misses, accidents, or unsafe acts.
  • Maintain the facility Behavior Based Safety Observation program.
  • Maintain and ensure completion of all safety action requests.
  • Lead the Saw Master Team and NWT Safety Representative teams.
  • Will be a member of and help drive the following teams: Plant Safety Committee; ERGO team; Executive Safety Committee, First Responders (requires certification- or willingness to obtain such- in CPR, AED, First Aid and Bloodborne)
  • Follow all safety rules and work instructions.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • May rotate to other departments and duties as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel to and pass an OSHA certification training class.
  • Will be involved in PEP goal setting and evaluation (for self).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must have knowledge of and the ability to learn the operation of cutting machines and hand and portable tools.
  • Must have the patience required to conduct training activities with others. Must have attention to detail and be observant of verbal and non-verbal cues while training with employees to ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Must be able to provide effective training to a diverse group of employees. Must have basic computer skills. (Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Ability to read the production ticket.
  • Must have good teamwork/communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to conduct group presentations in a professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to read, comprehend and communicate OSHA Standards.

PHYSICAL DEMAND
  • May require lifting, carrying, grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching, keying (typing), standing, bending, walking, etc.
MENTAL OR VISUAL DEMAND
  • Intense and/or exacting mental and/or visual attention; the work involves visualizing, planning, laying out, or otherwise performing very involved and complex work.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Typically found in the physical work surroundings – dust, noise, vibration, etc.
  • Work is typically performed under reasonably good working conditions; while exposure to any or all the above elements may occur, such exposure is generally not present to the extent of being disagreeable.
ATTENDANCE
  • Compliance with general company attendance standards is required.
