Petro Star is comprised of several divisions dedicated to meeting the unique challenges of producing and distributing fuel and lubricants throughout Alaska.
JOB SUMMARY:
Refinery- Rotating Equipment Tech is an hourly position. Typical shifts are four days per week, 11 hours each day, but can vary based on work needs; must be willing to work overtime and be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies. Employees must demonstrate a personal commitment to the incident and injury-free operations with a proven track record in safety and reliability. Must work outside in inclement weather in compact and tight spaces. The Rotating Equipment Technician reports directly to the Lead Rotating Equipment Technician.

THIS IS NOT A SLOPE POSITION. IT WILL REQUIRES RELOCATION TO VALDEZ, ALASKA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned):
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance in compliance with established standards on the following types of equipment:
    • Pumps / Drivers / Valves
    • Compressors (reciprocating & screw type) (process and utility)
    • Gearboxes / Mixers
    • Other rotating equipment
    • Large fans, including bearings, seals, and drives
  • Assist in developing preventative maintenance standards/work procedures, perform those duties, and provide work order feedback on discrepancies noted in services performed. Maintain accurate records of all inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct precision alignment of motor/driver and pump or compressor using Laser alignment tools.
  • Operate heavy industrial equipment such as forklifts, scissors lifts, basket trucks, and skid loaders.
  • Assist with PSM regulations, including writing maintenance procedures, generating MOC's, and participating in PHA's.
  • Support PSI zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
  • Maximize the Reliability & Availability of plant rotating equipment. Make recommendations on upgrades or replacement equipment.
  • Possess general knowledge of lubrication principles, coupler and drives, bearings and shafts, and basic rigging principles.
  • Assist in Refinery Turnarounds and Refinery Projects.
  • Must be competent with computers for research, material ordering, creating work orders, and good written and verbal communication.
  • Complete other duties as assigned at the discretion of your supervisor or manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the industrial process industry (refining, petrochemical, or similar).
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must pass a pre-employment DOT/PHMSA UA drug test and be subject to ongoing random drug testing.
  • Annual DOT/PHMSA occupational health and respirator fitness test required. Respirator fitness duty test and respirator use require no mustache or facial hair.
  • Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License. A CDL is not required.
  • Requires High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) and CMMS program.
  • Safety training in the industrial process industry is a plus.
