Note: This position follows a 4-day work week schedule (10 hour shifts). Team members will have a fixed schedule however, in order to be considered for the position all candidates must be available for both shifts: 4am-2:30pm and 5am-3:30pm MT.

This individual is responsible for providing support for our roasting operations by preparing batches of green coffee per specifications determined by schedules and production needs. This individual will also promote a safe, clean, and efficient roasting environment under guidance from leadership. Roaster Support Team Members have the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the coffee industry on subjects such as roasting, quality control, green coffee management, and coffee cultivation and processing methods at Origin.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides support to roasters as a key member of the roasting team.
• Loads green coffee into hopper scales to be transferred to roaster hoppers.
• Participates in coffee cuppings, team trainings, and roasting trainings.
• Engages in green and roasted coffee analysis to ensure quality standards.
• Records and monitors green and roasted coffee usage and inventories.
• Using a forklift, locates appropriate green coffee from warehouse to prepare roasts.
• Prepares various coffee blends according to established formulas.
• Always follow Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines and OSHA Safety standards.
• Clean and perform regular maintenance on Roasters and other equipment in the Roasting and Green Coffee packaging area per maintenance schedules and as directed by Roasting Leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Team Leader, Associate Team Leader, or Facility Leadership

REQUIREMENTS:

• Reliability and flexibility are paramount to meet quickly changing roasting schedules
• An interest in learning about specialty coffee roasting, production, and quality analysis
• Ability to learn inventory management tasks performed on tablet and handheld scanner
• An ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to operate mechanical equipment, use of forklifts, man lifts or other heavy machinery
• Effective communication, organizational skills, and teamwork
• Basic math skills (ability to do “on the fly math”)
• Able to perform physical requirements of position
• Able to read and speak basic English
• Must be 18 years of age or older

WORKING CONDITION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to stand or walk at least 10 hours, and be able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend and reach with or without reasonable accommodation
• Regularly getting on and off powered equipment, stepping on and off throughout shift
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
• Standing and walking for extended periods of time
• Early morning shifts starting at 4:00am and 5:00am*
• 4-day work week with 8–12-hour shifts
• Unassisted heavy lifting up to 100 pounds
• Work in warm temperature due to heat of Roaster
• Mandatory use of required personal protective equipment
• Repetition or sequence of duties
• Use of box cutters
