Public Works is hiring full-time Road Maintenance Division workers for the Port Hadlock maintenance shop. Applicants may be hired as Laborers or Operators depending on experience and CDL license, and Laborers may be eligible for promotion to Operator and paid CDL training.

Duties for both positions include general maintenance of county roads such as snow-and-ice control, cleaning culverts, clearing storm debris and traffic control. Laborers perform significant traffic control. Operators perform a variety of heavy equipment and truck operation.

Job requires intense physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions and after-hours callouts for emergency or storm-related events.

Applicants should also have the ability to work well in a team environment; have great communication and customer-service skills; and, be eager to work each day.

Education and/or Experience

Laborer

Applicants must possess a high school diploma/GED, with experience in road maintenance or road construction work preferred. A valid WA State Driver License is required.

Laborer

Operator I

Applicants must possess a high school diploma/GED and have two (2) years’ experience in truck driving, equipment operating, public works or related experience, and demonstrated ability to operate heavy trucks and mechanical equipment; or, the equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid WA State CDL Class A without tractor-trailer, manual-transmission or air-brake restrictions is required; tanker endorsement desired.

Work Week

Monday – Thursday or Tuesday – Friday

Work shift is 6:00Am – 4:30PM

Compensation

This position is full time, 40 hours per week with full benefits.

Laborer

Starting pay typically $19.47 to $20.46/hour DOE. Full range $19.47 - $24.31/hour.

Operator I

Starting pay is typically $21.47 to $22.56/hr. Full pay range $21.47/hr – $26.81/hr.
