Summary:

Island Creek Associates, a professional services firm, is currently seeking a full-time Research Scientist, Journeyman, to assist the Chief Scientist or Topic Leads at AIR 4.5.6 NAWCAD, Patuxent River, MD.


Duties/Responsibilities:

Assist the Chief Scientist or Topic Leads and lead portions of scientific investigations per assignments. Investigations are updated annually and strive for outcomes that answer concerns of problems posed. Plan, coordinate, and oversee modeling, integration, field test and analysis activities in support of particular segments of investigation as assigned. Work with nationally and internationally known subject matter experts assigned to the program. Scientific objectives are initiated by program leadership and are further detailed by topic leaders or working level investigators to determine relevant physical investigations or experiments.


The subject material requires knowledge and understanding both at the tactical level and at the scientific and physical level. Published technical journal material and textbooks are often reviewed for content and applied to solutions.


Specific functions performed are:

  • Assisting Chief Scientist or Topic Area Lead- in their orchestration of multi-discipline technical investigations often involving electromagnetics, chemistry, physics, oceanography, and meteorology.
  • Interest in working with appropriate subject matter experts to provide technical and scientific inputs to analysis activities.
  • Document scientific studies including contributions for annual report.
  • Lead, formulate and/or participate in small-scale in-house experiments to investigate specific program technical objectives.
  • Coordinate analysis activities within ASAP Program and guided by Program Manager with external stakeholders, to include briefings to program office representatives.
  • Working with stakeholders, coordinate and prioritize modeling, experimental or field test tasks.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques, this includes the ability to think logically, to determine the relevance and reliability of source material, reach conclusions, and report findings in a concise, coherent manner.
  • Prepare and review technical reports and documents to inform high-priority program decision making through data-driven products.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply technical journal articles, publications, or classified sources to scientific investigations.
  • MATLAB skills.
  • On site presence and availability for work in classified spaces minimum 2-3 days/week
  • Technical Writing.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating system and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Excellent communication skill.
  • Ability to provide technical concept briefings.

Desired Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience managing technical investigations.
  • Ability to document ongoing technical progress in recurring reports or summary reports.
  • Ability to organize and manage data and information.
  • Experience with classified programs, document marking and compliance with regulations and controls.
  • Experience working on diverse and disparate teams.
  • Knowledge of military terminology, systems, and concepts.
  • Ability to synthesize and then report on highly complex technical challenges.
  • Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in a science or engineering domain.

Required Education:

BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Oceanography, or Geophysics

MA/MS in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Oceanography, or Geophysics is preferred.


Required Experience:

3-10 years of experience in the functional description

Minimum of 2 years of experience in modeling and simulation projects, project management, and technical report generation.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.


Travel:

Less than 25% travel is required


Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and in classified spaces


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities


Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

This position is subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Ideal candidates will currently possess an Active DoD Top Secret Clearance; however, candidates with US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD clearance will be considered. Must be able to receive a Government Common Access Card (CAC), access Government systems, and receive a security clearance.
