The Infectious Disease Department seeks a Research Nurse who will report to the Principal Investigator(s) and to the Research Nurse Manager and will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of assigned clinical trials within the research program. The Research Nurse will be responsible for the oversight of the administrative and scientific implementation of several complex clinical research studies at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The Research Nurse is responsible for coordinating multiple research studies in ambulatory and hospitalized patients with active infectious diseases, primarily involving the areas of viral and bacterial infections, including but not limited to hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, HIV, SARS-CoV-2, and co-infections with viral hepatitis and HIV.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Screen, and complete baseline assessment of patients for the study at Johns Hopkins, reviewing potential patient records daily, and preparing necessary packets for enrollment (e.g. consent forms).
Maintain an inventory of current study kits.
Assemble and maintain required clinical regulatory documents for the study. Maintain study training documentation for other study team members.
Schedule study participants for visits and follow-up visits, as needed. Perform other research/evaluation tasks as needed, per the schedule of activities.
Ensure study procedures are followed and complete and accurate assessments are completed in accordance with the study protocol (including PK or other blood collections, sample processing and storage of research samples).
Responsible for entering data from the source documents (paper or electronic) into the study computer system and for responding to quality control queries as needed. Assure accurate data collection, data cleaning, and data entry.
Host clinical monitoring visits and work with the study monitor to resolve issues and questions.
Update and maintain participant data files, hard copy and electronic.
Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing and relational databases to track enrollment.
Participate in weekly progress meetings for active studies
Facilitate teamwork between research team, research pharmacy, research unit staff and other sites
Manage and administer investigational product(s) that has been approved for use as part of a research clinical trial
Provide nursing care as needed for subjects/families in a research setting
Operate personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars and other basic office support software.
Provide clerical assistance for the research project.
Other duties as assigned.
Maintain current certification in all applicable JHU required training classes.
Maintain appropriate vaccinations in accordance with JHU requirements.

Physical Requirements

Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
Finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm, for example, using a keyboard.
Communication skills using the spoken word.
Ability to see within normal parameters.
Ability to hear within normal ranges.
Ability to move about.

Minimum Qualifications

Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Current CPR certification required.
Knowledge of software, including Microsoft Word and Excel is needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.

Prior experience in clinical research a plus.
Excellent computer skills and organizational skills a must as well as attention to detail
Requires outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills with participants, Principal Investigators, and other team members.

Interest in cutting edge clinical trial.
