The following position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team:

Raytheon Technologies Research Center (RTRC) is a leading organization dedicated to developing cutting-edge technologies that drive innovation across various industries. Our researchers are highly regarded technical consultants for Raytheon Technologies (RTX) and play a pivotal role in leading government-sponsored research programs while also exploring their own creative ideas. Our expertise is relied upon by RTX businesses, including Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon, to shape the future of next-generation products, ranging from advanced mission systems for warfighters to environmentally friendly aircraft propulsion.

We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Co-Op Research Engineer to join our dynamic Heat Transfer Team. This is a temporary position enrich the experience of a student’s ongoing graduate-level program. This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals who thrive on leveraging their technical prowess in thermal engineering to collaborate across disciplines. You will be expected to possess strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to draw meaningful research conclusions.

Primary Responsibilities:

In this role, you will have opportunities to contribute to various areas within the Heat Transfer Team, such as:

  • Researching two-phase flow boiling and associated instabilities.
  • Developing a two-phase flow loop for cooling of power electronics systems.
  • Developing advanced optimization design models for thermal components such as heat sinks, cold plates, heat exchangers, and integrated flow channels.
  • Creating physical test systems to measure additively manufactured fluid/thermal components, two-phase flow loops, and thermal interface characterization.
  • Developing high-fidelity and reduced order modeling approaches for single- and two-phase flows.
  • Designing cooling strategies for electronics with high and/or transient heat fluxes, such as heterogeneous integration, microchannel cooling, passive heat spreaders, jet impingement, and phase change materials.
  • Exploring and collaborating in the areas of emerging thermal management technologies such as additive manufacturing, advanced materials, microelectronics, power electronics, electric machines, aircraft systems, avionics, radar systems, sensor systems, and space systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • A deep understanding of heat transfer and thermal engineering principles.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment.
  • Proficiency with analytic modeling using common engineering software such as Ansys Fluent, LabVIEW, and MatLAB.

Education:

B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics is required. A minimum of 1 year completed of a Ph.D. program is required.

Location:

This position is based in East Hartford, CT, and offers a hybrid work arrangement. The expectation is to work on-site 3-5 days per week.
