Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate III in the Pharmacology department within the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate III will perform independent research within the lab. Studies include expression of proteins in bacteria and mammalian cells, protein purification, and mutagenesis/binding studies for interaction with viral and host proteins. Research will also include experiments of gammaretroviruses in tissue culture.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • As directed, performs various research/technical operations relative to the ongoing research in the lab associated with murine leukemia virus. Isolating and characterizing novel retroviral receptors.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the clinical and research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
  • As required, contributes to the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.
  • Under supervision, assists in the conducting of a continuous program of research and development regarding the analytical and instrumentation functions of the laboratory.
  • Prepares experimental data for publication and grant applications.
  • Participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
  • Hands-on experience in at least 2 of these areas (retroviral infections, RNASeq, Channel proteins).
  • Experience in isolation and characterization of novel retroviral receptors, molecular and cellular biology and tissue culture.

  • The candidate must be highly motivated with evidence of productivity.
  • Individual must also possess strong writing skills, be well organized and have the ability to think independently.
