Recreational Therapist

The Recreational Therapist provides recreational therapeutic activities to patients admitted to the inpatient unit at Baptist Health Richmond. The recreational therapist works with patients who are facing mental health, substance use disorders and dual diagnoses to set goals and improve activity of daily living. The recreational therapist assists patients in participating in activities aimed to improve physical, mental, emotional and behavioral health through creative techniques, practices and outlets. The recreational therapist engages with patients both individually and leads group settings. Participates in treatment team staffing and collaborates with treatment team as needed. The recreational therapist can provide activities to patients receiving hospital based services throughout the behavioral health service line.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and

Licensures/Certifications/Registrations Required:

Qualifications: Holds Bachelor or Master’s degree in Recreation Management, Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Must maintain certification and credentials as appropriate.

Skills and Abilities Required: Minimum of 1 year of experience. Preferably has experience working in mental health or acute healthcare setting. Knowledge of the various therapeutic activities, creative modalities, local events and community resources. The ability to communicate in a clear and professional manner with treatment team members including physician, NP, PA, RN, and others as necessary. The ability to navigate and document within the EMR.
