General Purpose

GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of general administrative, technical, and field duties as needed to oversee the success of scheduled recreation programs, games, and events.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May be assigned supervisory duties as needed.

Examples of Duties

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists in preparation and maintenance as necessary; ensures proper maintenance of recreation equipment and facilities.

Assists in implementing a variety of recreational activities such as practice, games, events, etc.

Assists in planning and coordinating program activities; acquires program equipment and supplies; enforces rules, maintains discipline of participants; maintains constant alertness and awareness of participant activities to minimize incidents or accidents; ensures compliance of policies and procedures by all staff members and participants.

Attends regularly scheduled events, games, programs, or departmental training to assure efficient operations; sets up equipment and assures availability of program resources; serves as official departmental representative; mediates disputes between players, spectators, and officials; controls the game or event by enforcing established rules, regulations, and requirements.

Completes required reports and submits them in a timely manner; renders routine first aid to injured participants.

Operates concession stand; takes and prepares food orders; sells inventory; operates cash register and accounts for cash; gives proper change.

Performs scheduled upkeep and maintenance of facility and/or park; cleans floors, walls, windows, sweeps and dusts, etc.

Performs the duties of umpire or official; as official score keeper; makes final determinations related to winning teams, causes and need to declare forfeitures, etc.; may make decisions regarding player eligibility; maintains records of league and tournament standings.

Provides direct leadership to participants enrolled in recreation activities/programs.

Supervises facility and activity areas during program times to ensure public safety; performs opening and closing procedures; secures doors and other accesses upon arrival and departure.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform the listed and related duties,

Special Qualifications:
  • Must possess a Food Handler’s permit.
  • Must possess the following within one (1) month of hire:
    • American Red Cross CPR certification
    • American Red Cross First-Aid certification
  • Must be willing to work evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Additional Qualifications/Information

Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge of the rules and regulations of sports and a variety of recreational activities; methods and techniques of developing and operating recreation programs; and general principles of supervision and officiating; of community and public relations; equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in the comprehensive community recreation program.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various age groups, other organizations, and the public; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Work Environment:
Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching.
