    Position Summary
      Performs clerical duties associated with the Department. Greets visitors, answers telephones, screens calls, and approaches internal and external customers promptly and courteously, consistent with the mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures of ARHS. Ensures proper communication by recording messages, creating and maintaining schedules, taking notes/minutes, scheduling rooms and assisting with meetings and event planning.
      The receptionist integrates knowledge and skills with effective interactions to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information. Provides direct and indirect ways to communicate with those who need it, meeting the needs of each encounter, in-line with their scope. Decisions and actions with patients and families are determined in an ethical manner practicing compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth and unique attributes of each person. Effectively communicates with patients/families, visitors, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers. All areas of work are provided to achieve and maintain top decile results and outcomes for patient experience, quality, and patient safety.

Demonstrates professional conduct, effective communication, and effective completion of tasks. Always assists coworkers, patients, families, and visitors regardless of the patient assignment, so long as the assistance is in-line with their scope.
    Position Qualifications
      Minimum Education
      • High School Diploma or GED required
      • Advanced coursework in business or medical terminology preferred
      Experience
      • 1 year of prior experience in a medical or office setting preferred
      Required Registration/License/Certification
      • Basic Life Support (BLS)
      • BLS from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire
      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physician and acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills
      • Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians
      • Typing, computer skills, word processing, mathematical skills
      • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
      • Must have the ability to coordinate and organize details
      • Must have the ability to coordinate multiple tasks
      Physical Demands
      • Manual dexterity and mobility
      • Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting and at times, standing/walking
      • Bending, squatting, twisting, turning
      • Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
      Working Conditions
      • Exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
      • Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment; odorous chemicals and specimens; and, unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces uneven surfaces), etc.
      • At times, may be subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays); and emergencies.
      • Continuous sitting or standing up to >8 hours per day
      • Episodes of extensive walking may occur during shift.
      • Speaking, reading, and writing > 8 hours per day
      • Lift, carry; push and/or, pull <30 lbs
      • Frequently per shift: bends; squats; kneels; twists; turns; and reaches.
      • Frequently per minute: hand, finger, and wrist repetition; and moderate dexterity.
      • Frequently per hour, exposed to soft voices >3ft away.
      • Frequently per hour, exposed to close eye work
