The Re-Entry Housing Specialist works with LifeMoves clients from our emergency and transitional programs who have been involved with the criminal justice system—specifically those who have been incarcerated in a California State Prison at any point in their life—to increase housing opportunities. The Re-Entry Housing Specialist will conduct outreach in the community to build relationships with landlords, and other community partners already serving the Re-Entry population. The Re-Entry Housing Specialist will provide 1:1 counseling/meetings with clients revolving around housing, credit, housing search, housing portfolios, and budgeting. The Re-Entry Housing Specialist will also be responsible for facilitating educational workshops, collaborating with a client’s primary case manager and providing weekly housing leads. The position requires the candidate to work independently, and collaboratively as a team with the ultimate goal of successfully employing our LifeMoves clients to achieve permanent housing. This position requires knowledge of San Mateo and Santa Clara County (and surrounding areas), housing agencies, vocational entities, and a strong understanding of the needs of the Re-Entry population.


Re-Entry Specialist:

  • Develop, implement and revise individual housing plans and consistently monitor progress toward client goals
  • Provide on-going supportive functions in accordance with the housing plan
  • Act as liaison for LifeMoves and our community partners
  • Communicate appropriately and as needed with clients, case managers and external partners
  • Stay current and knowledgeable about external community resources, referrals and service linkages
  • Ability to manage a caseload of clients
  • Knowledge of online housing resources (Zillow, Hotpads, Apartments.com, etc.)
  • In collaboration with Manager, develop relationships with external partners to provide linkage between resources and agencies
  • Maintain client and program records in accordance with applicable standards and policies
  • Maintains a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships, and professional stature
  • Participate in continuing education activities, remaining knowledgeable in area(s) of expertise
  • Attend weekly case consultation meetings and monthly trainings; meet regularly with supervisor to exchange pertinent information and receive supervision
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related field, with a minimum of one year case management/specialist experience
  • Professional experience in real estate and property management is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability working with individuals and families from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Must be computer literate; internet savvy, experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; comfortable with public speaking
  • Strong organizational, detail oriented, and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively as part of a collaborative team
  • Display a high level of initiative and commitment towards completing duties efficiently
  • High level of cultural awareness, responsiveness, and competency
  • An understanding of ideas and practices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion; and a commitment to ongoing professional development in this area.

  • Valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance
