New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants Ltd. is seeking a caring, compassionate, and patient orientated Radiation Therapist.

We are, a freestanding, physician-owned, comprehensive cancer center based in Albuquerque, NM with a satellite clinic in Gallup, New Mexico. We are an Oncology Medical Home, with a focus on early intervention for patient symptoms, resulting in low hospitalization rates. Our Physicians have won Top 10 Docs in the city of Albuquerque multiple times.

As a successful Medical oncology and Radiation oncology practice, we have expanded our medical practice to include Survivorship, palliative care, Primary Care, Rheumatology, Pulmonary, Urology, Surgical ENT, General Surgery, and Sleep Center.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Radiation Therapist simulates and provides radiation oncology treatments to patients according to the plan prescribed. The Radiation Therapist is also responsible for the safety of the patients, for observing and documenting any reactions to treatment, updating charts and answering any radiology related questions the patients might have. It is also the duty of a Radiation Therapist to maintain equipment and follow all safety regulations regarding radiation exposure. Essential Functions Statement(s):

• Administers prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards.
• Positions patients for treatment with accuracy according to CT simulation and planning orders.
• Enters data into computer using ARIA, create documents, create and manage tasks. Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
• Maintains and updates EMR.
• Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient charts, including consents, pathology, special alerts and treatment plans.
• Performs daily Quality Assurance procedures on Linear Accelerator and HDR unit to ensure proper operation of radiation therapy equipment.
• Observes and reassures patients during treatment and report unusual reactions to physicians.
• Assess patient’s condition daily including skin irritation, nausea, hair loss and general health condition.
• Educates, prepares and reassures patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical assistance, and reinforcing physicians' advice regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care.
• Verifies daily treatment dosages delivered during each session.
• Prepares and constructs treatment devices for positioning and immobilization during CT plan simulations to be used for daily treatment.
• Uses IGRT to adjust patient position as directed by physician for daily radiation treatments.
• Trains and supervises student technologists or subordinate radiotherapists.
• Acts as liaison with physicists, radiation oncologists, dosimetrists and RO nurses.
• Provides assistance and communication to other department personnel as needed for standard of patient care.
• Conducts treatment sessions, in accordance with the long-term treatment plan as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
• Operates CT scanner for the purpose of treatment planning.
• Follows established policies, procedures, quality improvement objectives, environmental and radiation safety and infection control standards.
• Cover Gallup branch when needed

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Sciences, or Associates of Science in Radiologic Technology, or a certificate in Radiation Therapy.
• Knowledge in principles, practices and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment.
• Knowledge of the human anatomy and proper positioning of the patient to provide treatment as prescribed.
• Working knowledge of procedures employed with Radiation Hazards, Material Safety Data Sheets and their application.
• Ability to administer CPR in a medical emergency.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, physicians, radiation therapists, and other employees.

Computer Skills:

Intermediate to advanced computer skills

Certificates & Licenses:

• Current licensure as required by state or national authority and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
• Maintain ARRT certification in radiation therapy with a minimum of 24 documented hours of CEU’s over a 2 year period.
• CPR Certified.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $88,000.00 - $96,000.00 per year
