Job Duties/Skills

This position is full time, Monday through Friday and is perfect for someone who wants to make a real difference in the lives of others - with the added benefit of daytime hours!! We work within a pleasant, family-like atmosphere, with staff that are passionate about our patients. The radiation therapist may be required to travel between our three locations: Tacoma, one in Gig Harbor, and one in Puyallup. Our offices close for weekends & holidays. You will be required to take weekend on-call at least 3 times a year.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Delivers therapeutic radiation therapy treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist following Tacoma Valley Radiation Oncology Centers Company Policies and Procedures.

2. Applies the principles of patient safety during all aspects of patient care while assuming responsibility for patient needs during treatment.

3. Detects and reports significant changes in patient condition and determines when to withhold treatment until the radiation oncologist is consulted.

4. Provides patient education, anticipate a patient's need for information and provides education throughout the treatment.

5. Monitors and assesses the patients throughout the treatment course.

6. Reviews patient treatment plan and prescription prior to initial treatment delivery for quality and accuracy.

7. Reviews patient treatment records prior to each treatment for prescription or treatment procedural changes.

8. Performs procedural timeouts prior to administration of treatments.

9. Performs ongoing quality assurance activities; monitoring for completeness of patient and department quality.

10. Prepares room and equipment such as immobilization, treatment and protection devices, confirms patient identification and positions according to prescription.

11. Performs morning warm up verifying photon energies, electron energies and linear accelerator functions.

12. Assist physics department with quality assurance procedures as needed.

13. Applies principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.

14. Reports operation of equipment to the Chief Therapist and Medical Physicist.

15. Detects unsatisfactory setups and or errors; reporting them to the Radiation Oncologist or Chief Therapist.

16. Confers with colleagues about any problems, reports any incidents or injuries, and completes the appropriate incident reports.

17. Recognizes signs and symptoms of an emergency.

18. Attends meetings and in-services, understanding that work hours can vary.

19. Communicates effectively with all staff verbally and in writing.

20. Complainant with rules and regulations for billing practices of Centers for Medicare Services and all payers.

21. Educates and monitors students within the Radiation Therapy Training Program.

Requirements:

· ARRT License

· Washington State License

· Preferably one year experience
